A few days ago, we featured London dailies' take on the PS3. Let us take a closer look at The Guardian's Greg Howson's grade for the PS3.After the usual "oohs" and "aahs" upon getting Sony's next-gen console, Howson's got one question to ask: What is it really like to use a PlayStation 3?
According to Greg Howson, games-wise, it seems that the PS3 doesn't offer much. Of course, the games are nothing short of spectacular, "but there is nothing on display that Microsoft's competing Xbox 360 couldn't produce."
Now of course, a lot of guys will contest that fact, but then, that's just our source's opinion. He does say, though, that "we'll have to wait until next year" for a complete comparison, as devs would already have known their way with the system by then.
Regarding the console's hardware, Howson says that the "build quality is high", with the touch sensitive buttons and all. The built-in power supply's definitely a bonus, and it's not as as "noisy as the Xbox 360", which is great, when you're watching a Blu-Ray movie.
As mentioned by IGN, the controller is a bit light, which can be a disconcerting at first. Unfortunately, the one Howson tested didn't have movie playback and networking capabilities, so they weren't able to test out the console's other features. He did say that the XMB is great, and "compared well to the Xbox 360's equivalent."
Of course, this is just a sort of rough PS3 try-out, as Howson didn't have access to other features of the said console. Of course, the "real test" will happen next year, when users get access to movie playback, online facilities, and more polished games.

I'd like to see 360 pull that off.
(anyone how disagrees with what i said above is a fool, and needs to go research what yellow dog v5.0 is all about and the possibilities it brings to the PS3. (yes, it's official, it's not just some dodgy homebrew deal!))

Cmon man, be realistic. We're talking about games not some emulated *****. In terms of games, 360 and PS3 sill be equal just like last gen where Xbox was 3x more powerful than the freaking PS2 but both were about the same. It's just how things work out. Really don't want to have an argument because PS3 is Soooo close to be launched and only time will tell. So just hold your breath, take the front row seat and watch the outcome of this intensive console war.
As far as Gears of War goes, no it's not the only game for the 360 coming out. There are actually a few good games: Forza 2, Bioshock, Halo 3 (duh!), Fable 2, Mass Effect, Two Worlds, Elveon, Alan Wake, Too Human, Parabellum, Halo Wars, Lost Planet, Lost Odessy, Blue Dragon and Shadowrun. There are also some other, but less anticipated games like Precursor (looks OK), Crackdown, Viva La Pinata (Rofl), Roboblitz, Guitar Hero 2 (NextGen wise, not coming to PS3), possible Source (Half-life 2) Mods since Valve announced an optimized source engine for 360, etc I'm sure there are more, just can't think of more off the top of my head.
Just out of curiosity, I keep hearing people say that PS3 is warm when its on. Are people trying to associate it with how much heat is produced by the 360? Every time I play Oblivion, I check the rear of my 360 too see how hot it gets. To me, it also feels warm. "Warm" is a relative term and I haven't seen any 1st degree burns form the 360 yet or did I miss something? Same goes the for the noise of the 360, I just watch the video of a guy holding a camera ping blank to the PS3
(http://www.ps3scene.com/news/static/SoundsofPS3Silence-1162876952.php) so people could head its loudness, seems to me, 360 could be slightly louder with a game spinning inside and with no games, they seems to be equal. Don't know what all the deal is about.
Also, I keep hearing people say things about a similiar marketplace for Sony (No, not the PS3 Online Store), but something along the lines of renting movies. Just today, Microsoft announced that it will release movies for its marketplace for rentals in SD and HD formats. Link:

PS: Reviews are overrated, just download a video with game play in it and go from there. Or better yet, a demo. Reviews are so wrong most of the time.
Anyways. Peace. Just my 2 cents.
