GRAW 2 - Image 1

Never mind the name of the state involved. There's a weird sense of injustice to be had here. Game Politics reports that the governor of Chihuahua, Mexico has apparently ordered the confiscation of any and all copies of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 that surface in the Mexican state.

They cite a report from El Diario, a Mexican broadsheet, which says that the action was taken after Mayor Hector Murguia Lardizabal slammed the game for being "a crime against the intellectual capacity of Juarez residents." We suppose the governor got wind of the announcement and decided to take action.

In any case, Game Politics also notes this statement they took from the mayor, who said that "Violent video games instill values which are upside down, and these actions are despicable because they attempt to divide the good will of the residents of American and Mexican cities."

On the bright side, he's probably never heard of God Hand. The stereotypical Mexican accent of one of the bosses and the liberal use of chihuahuas would have probably started a war.

Not like i care, but games now a days seem to occur outside the US about wars and what not(ala Mercenaries 2 anyone?)

so it does kinda give the ppls who live their a not so good feeling about how they are seen or represented by outsiders. You know i would love more games that depict America as a war torn nation with a dictator, let see how Americans like it...you know where you get to blow up the white house and destroy the pentagon in one of your missions. I could see the US government all over the game stating crap like "Its bad for our children" and "A weapon/game for terrorist to us for their planning."

» Que?

Why do cities and countries get pissed when videogames create fictional wars in them but are perfectly fine when TV or movies do the same thing?

When ghost recon 2 for original xbox came out there was also a backlash from north korea. I think they called it war propaganda. So who can we fight in these games without offending another country? GRAW US civil war coming soon!

» Dude!!!

They do this because they think that you are making fun of it....thats why they don't like this type of things, like the RAinbow vegas or the movie 300, I dont know about chihuahua but I think they need to relaxe a little.

30% of the people in mexico own a 360.

» The biggest lie

I'm mexican and that's total bu**sh*t, and we got ps3, wii and xbox 360 for your information stupid roflcopter motherf**ker.

That is not true, proof of that is that I have like 20 xbox 360 pirated games and I pay 2 dollars for each one. The point here is that if our government can't deal with piracy and other important things they won't even care about this stupid thing here.

And I don't give a f**k on that (I wouldn't care if your army took our country or something like that, because your country has kept mexico under its control), after all: those are just games and it's a really cool game.

» Well

There is that one game where the events of WWII are different and the Nazis win and invade the US. Not sure if they take control, but if they do I'm assuming you get to blow up the White House/Pentagon in that, though it would be a Nazi-controlled White House and Pentagon.

by That mexican dude - 2007-03-25 05:56
» Actually...

I've said it before I can't wait for this on my PS3. I bet if it was the other way around the Mexican government would be eating it up.

Go to America steal jobs, send us your money, don't become citizens and pledge your loyalty only to Mexico the country that hates you.

This game shows what will be happening very soon with the increase of Illegal Immigration on our country.

Call me racist all you want but I have a hispanic girlfriend. I hate freeloading Illegal law breaking invaders, many people wait in line to come here and Mexico thinks that their people are better and should be allowed to cut the line and not have to pay for anything.

If people in Mexico can afford a PS3 then I don't want to hear of they come to America to better themselves.

{Rant over}

» lets be fair.

Well, I think that it is because of how the enemy is portrayed (mexican soldiers yelling out stupid remarks and acting silly) that I could see why they would be upset. For some reason, here in America, we portray Mexicans as people who allways yell things like ay ay ay, arriba arriba, andale andale. That's pretty belittling, and I too would be insulted if I were Mexican. Imagine if all the media from other countries portrayed Americans as fat, racist, loudmouth, gold digging, wanna be bad as s e ss. After all, America has the largest population of obbese people in the world, there is alot of racism here, we are loud as hell and always have something to say, we area capitalist nation, and we all think we are the *****. Wouldn't we be mad too? We allways talk of a "rebel invasion," but weren't we who invated Panama in the late 80s, and are we not still invating Iraq? I just feel that there needs to be balance on how cultures are portrayed, not just in video games, but in all of American media.
