Grand Theft Auto IV release date moved to early 2008

Yet another title won't be hitting the shelves on time: Grand Theft Auto 4 (PS3, Xbox 360) expected to see an October release, but now it won't be out until the fiscal second quarter of 2008 (February to April). Along Take-two's major announcement are expected figures of financial losses this year, reports Reuters Canada.

Take-two chairman Strauss Zelnick was quoted saying "certain elements of development proved to be more time-intensive than expected." The big man didn't reveal any details, but we'd figure that a game of such scale would run into trouble prior to release.

The company expects some damage on their pockets due to the delay. Revenue was expected to reach US$ 950 million to US$ 1 billion for this fiscal year that ended October 31. These numbers may sound big enough, but June forecasts hoped for US$ 1.2 billion to US$ 1.25 billion. Take-Two's shares suffered, dropping 8% from US$ 16.91 to US$ 15.55 on NASDAQ.

WTF is its the PS3's fault the games been delayed?!?! I don't think that Rockstar and Take 2 would care if the 360's version was released firsts. A myriad of games in fact was released on the 360 first the ported over to the PS3. If its reall the PS3's fault then rockstar would have shafted Sony and released it on the 360 first as if saying"thats what happens when you have a hard to develop for console." You get ***** slapped for being very bad at starting a Fanboy flame war. King Moron!!!

lol but it's going to be like 30GB, and I don't think anybody's got PS3 or Xbox 360 emulators on their computers considering how most computers don't have as much processing power as them. Even if I was into illegal downloads of videogames, I wouldn't have the patience to wait a few months for next-gen stuff to download.

This is what I'm thinking. GTA4 is delayed because of the PS3. Since Rockstar and Sony are really good friends; R* have said to Sony: look your version of GTA4 will not be as good as the X360 one we need more time. Sony respond: ok we will send you our squad programmers to help you and make it even better on PS3 (+ some cash) but you have to delay both version. OK says R*!

Now Sony is really really happy. Because this delay will cause more troubles for Microsoft. Halo 3 is really the only game now on x360 ( maybe bioshock too). And 2008 is own by Sony ( now with GTA ). It's like 50 millions on the garbage for Microsoft.

I wonder if the this has anything to do with fitting a hugs game on a DVD... 1Up said the 360 version was jittery and slow.

u guyz are talking out your ass the developers from rockstar have already stated that both systems are not easy to work with and that the xbox360 was actually holding them back for two reasons. 1 they had to make the game knowing they couldn't make use of the hard drive because not every 360 had one, two because they had limited disk space. i wouldn't care if they delayed it because they wanted to add more content for the blu ray but it was probably cause of bugs.

Face it, NO game is going to look better on a ps3 if theres a 360 version. Easy hardware, better games. Unless they had a game like Oblivion where they have a whole year to work on it only to give it more grass is funny enough. its ps3s fault, those who arent from De Nile know this already.

I'm sure I'll get bashed for this, since I'm sure an awful lot of PS3 fans who hate the game I'm about to mention are here, but this delay gives me more time to play Halo 3, and all the other games coming out before the end of the year

Actually some other developers have actually stated that it's much easier to design a game for the PS3 then port it to the 360, some maybe the PS3 is hard at work making it's owner proud while the 360 is sitting back begging to get the scraps, and yes you do get the scraps cause the playstation is so good rockstar is giving us a new franchise, now go play your 360's until the red ring of death comes on and you cry for micro soft this fix it's crappy hard ware and the turn around and reinburst them by paying money to feel special and get services like icons and the ability to play online which is stadard for us, do a 360 and read this post again losers...

I don't mind waiting for GTA IV next year. Quite frankly, the lineup of games heading towards the end of the year will be more that satisfying. I'd rather have them perfect it than give a half-assed game like most of the ***** that came out in the past. Look at what happened to FF VII when it was rushed.

I would not totally put it out of the realm of impossiblity. All I was pointing out was if in fact that the PS3 was the cause of the delay, why would R* and T2 hold back the 360 version of GTA4 when xbots fantards have pointed out time and time again that the 360 has more console sold there fore more lucrative to make games for. So if in fact that the PS3 is holding the game back R* and T2 would release it regardless and make money despite the PS3's version being released later on. Fact is until we hear it from R* and T2 what really holding the game back were really not going to know.

I don't hate either system and I don't think it's truly either systems fault for the delay of this game you have to look at it from a business stand point. In business you have to have projected forecast of your sales for the year before the fiscal year even starts, the execs. at rockstar asked how soon can we get this game out this year. They know that the game will be a big seller they want to get it out as soon as possible. Management & Programmers informed them they could deliver it by 3rd quarter 07 right before the christmas time when sales are the highest and they factored it into 07 sales, problem is that in all the confusion to get the game out as soon as possible they realized that if the game sucks that it could potentially ruin rockstar as the GTA series is what they are known for. So in turn they delay the game till second quarter 08 about 6 months to make sure sales and pre-order sales takes off and that all bugs are worked out.

P.S. another good reason to never pre-order all you doing is giving them is you money and you don't get jack for months but news that the game will be delayed

i hope they take the extra time to take the ps3 to its full potential....just like they polished it up more with OBLIVIAN for the ps3........cause all PS3 have have at least a hard drive of 20 gigs or more....and disk space of 54 gigs and more than twice the power of the 360

soo im hoping they due what they did to oblivian where it takes up 4 gigs of memory, to give you a trouble free, Red Ring of Death proof and amazing experience....no loading times, bigger memory footprint means... tons bullet holes left everywhere, bazooka explosion marks, dead civilians, farther draw distance, no pop up's or hearing the LOAD!!! fighter jet landing noise the 360 makes to load stuff quick like in "Gears" and when cars that caught your eye dont dissapear every time you turn around........like in saints row

they 360 only has 500 mb of ram to put everything needed on screen , and plus custom music..... and backround downloads.....it takes too much out of powering the game

im not really rooting for this one cause i feel that the 360 without a hard drive will hinder the experience we could of had

im looking forward to GTA5 exclusivly for ps3....taken to its limit's

to the idiot's the 360 version is basically complete, it was unforseen developmental issues with the ps3 version that are holding back the release on both platforms, seeing as gta was previously a sony exclusive they are not allowed release it until its ready for both platforms
