Given the furor surrounding Gran Turismo HD, it's easy to forget that what we're getting is likely to be the greatest racing game ever made in the history of like... forever. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think they should gouge us either, and I don't think they will... but that's a story for another article. Right now, let's get down to admiring the exquisite modeling skills of the wizards at Polyphony Digital. We've got a number of powerhouses on show including the ever impressive Lotus Elise, the Subaru Impreza and the Eunos Roadster and the Toyota Celica. I'd buy that for a dollar! (Get it? Cus we'll have to because of the microtra... ah, never mind).

» To The Chef

He probably meant how this GT is not the successor to GT on the PS3 because their still working on it. this is just for the mean time, it really just is the latest PS2 GT in HD hence the name GT HD. the real successor is still in the works and it even goes by a different name " GT:Vision"

by matts1900 - 2006-09-28 11:50
» wow

This is just propaganda. There's no point in churning out 12,000,000 polygon models of cars in 3DS Max & sayin theyre from GT HD, its just hyperbole. My ass could do that.

I wanna see in-game footage, ie from behind the car, with an HUD present. Anything other than that is a waste, and meant only to create hype rather than convey what the game will actually look like.

Read between the lines people, just wait for the in-game stuff to come out & quit being bait to the propaganda machine :)

» I'm a believer

I don't assume anything anymore, after seeing Lost Odyssey in game graphics; I believe everything can look cg quality. Since The PS 3 is slightly more powerful, I believe this game will look like that. Now if only i didn't have to buy cars at 5.00 a pop. I would definitely add this game to my collection whenever the PS 3 cheap enough for me to get it.

» Nice

Looks nice, I have test drive for 360 and they are about the same quality as the ones here. I just wish they had some in-game pics.

» Holy moly!!!

HOLY CRAP! Is this really a game or what? polyphone digital is the best developers ever

» Can't wait

This is one game that I'll defenitly be buy for the PS3. It's great to see that PD is actually using the PS3 power to show what the a next-gen GT game can be. Even though this isn't final, the game is really looking good. Also, I think some of you guys are confused about the GT HD thing.

GT HD will be split in to 2 modes, GT HD Premium and GT HD Classic. Premium mode will be a preview tof GT5 and will have 2 new courses and 30 cars, which none of you'll have to buy. It will also be using the PS3's power to show how GT5 will look.

Classic mode will just be GT4 running in 1080p with only minor tweaks. It will also feature online racing. The bad is that you'll start with no car and no tracks. All car and tracks are going to be available for download on PS's network platform. PD will release new cars and tracks on a monthly bases and some cars be available for a limited time. All these downloads will cost money, but prices aren't finalized.

It's also said that the game will sale for cheap. GT HD will be available in December in Japan.

» meh..

ii dot like how in the game the shadows are just static objects..

The shadows of the enviornment dont affect the models and the lighting effects on themm.. watch when the car goes into the tunnell its lit up like a brigh day.. the shadows of the trees dont cast themselves onto the car either..

In all.. Sloppy.

iwhich is why i should be a game programmer..

by Figboy - 2006-09-28 17:38
» how about...

you guys go here: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/736/736366p1.html

i'm not a GT fan, but the screenshots are amazing. simply amazing. GT fans should be pleased.

» I like.

But I think the grass looks sh*tty.

by no - 2006-09-28 19:50
» still no

the graphics blow.

....and so does the CONTROL. its so...LAST GEN.

by lansingone - 2006-09-28 20:19
» #18 it's a car sim

the controls have been almost the same since GT1, just like microsoft flight sim. what do you want some gay arcade type of game? some people people can't play it without spinning thare tires around every track, but thats just cuase thay can't play a driving game thats so much like the real thing, and thay make arcade racer games for people like you

by SteveTao - 2006-09-28 21:53
» Lol

For that idiot that said the grass looks *****ty and the lighting isn't casting right, calm down, dude.

The game's not finish. It won't even be out 'til 2008. This is just the beginning.

by jt - 2006-09-29 01:09
» ummmm

Figures, the in game footage has crappy framerate, flat textured grass, much lower car models, a static mountain pic, people that stand around and do nothing, and once again no damage model. ** Nothing to see here **

by Vietone - 2006-09-29 03:27
» The game is fine

Its a great looking game. In fact on par with Forza 2.

The frame rate is high and smooth. thatd easily noticeable since everything looks fluid. EVerything in 60FPS will seem like its slower but thats cause your seeing the same information in a higher number of frames.

Any person who has a PC needs ot test it out.

Set the Frame rate to max at 30 and play the game.

Then set the frame rate to 60 and play the same game.

At 60, everything is still the exact same except it "seems" slower.

Lower car models. Are you blind? These are the best looking car models in any racing game.

Car Damage to me isnt a big deal. As in real racing you try not to get damaged. This is a simulation not an arcade game. Simulation racing games dont need damage because that is not what the genre of simulation games need.

Car Damage doesnt add any expirence to the game at all.

Crash into a wall at a high speed, Car is totaled, you have to start over.

Crash into a wall at a slow speed and your car is damaged. IF your performance gets damaged as well, how do you expect to get any better at the game when every time you make a mistake, your performance is lowered. So by the time you finish the track, your car is at half performance and so is your potential.

Damage, performance decreasements and all those that the other racers are adding to the game will only make people mad.

» GTHD rules

All the people screaming that this is not the real graphics are in denial. They know that it is real and that has them worried. The funny thing is come Nov 17 we will be playing our so called unreal games, while they are bored looking up old picks and articles to slam Sony. What a sad bunch this has become. I think you guys should form a group and sue Bill Gates for destroying your life. It seems that nothing else matters in your life , but 360.

Both systems offer good games. 360 has HALO3, GOW, PGR3, Forza, DOA series and many more, while PS3 has MGS, GTHD, Ridge Racer, Tekken 6, Virtua Fighter etc...

Exclusive will decide the fate of this generation of game consoles.

Wii will definetly survive, no doubts there.

It is those exclusivve games by AAA developers that will decide. Take each genera and the top game for example.

What will beat Halo? (it has a following already)

What comes close to GT? (this games sales units and consoles...remember the GT PS2 pack)

What fighter is deeper than VF? (DOA not even close)

What fighter is more fun than Tekken? (DOA and VF not even close)

What tactical espionage game presents itself on level wit Metal Gear Solid? (Splinter plays well, but is missing that hollywood polish)

What arcade racer will beat PGR3? (It looks good, the cars are real, drifting and style rewards you. Sorry Ridge Racer you are fun, but what is the point of style if you don't benefit from it)

See how this can go back and forth.

GOW vs. Resistance and so on.

When it comes down to it exclusives and customer preference will decide the fate of the big two.

MS does have a double edged sword here.

They are getting exclusive content by the day from experienced developers, but at the same time the content is new and unproven. That can be good and bad. If I am a avid gamer I may want something new like Blue Dragon over Final Fantasy IVIIXII, but at the same time the latter is pretty safe so I may decide to play it safe with my $59.99.

Sony has it's ups and downs too. For one stop lying to your fanbase. Killzone was not called for at all. The price= ouch!! ( I do realize there is value in there somewhere), but why didn't you prove it at TGS?

The release is about a month away and your fanbase still is uninformed. Sony, if not now... when? How about some HD video of what this thing can do to promote your PS3 rather than "This is living" commercials. I mean show off the XMB, picture mode, music mode, online, all in HD, a nice montage of what you have to offer. All these boring short movie clips, don't mean jack to people who want to see this thing in action. Look at Wii commercials, I get it Sony. Do you?

People know that the PS3 wont have rumble, but it will also be capatable with the Logitech Driving Force Pro and that is the only way to play GT.
