Toyota Celica GT Four Rally car...or is it GT5?

The fifth in the series of the "Ultimate driving simulator" for the PS3 is set to be one of the best-selling PS3 titles of all time, with previous Gran Turismo titles for previous PlayStations being one of the most sold game series of all time. When we get to the title of this demo though, it gets a little confusing.

You may recall that at the start of this month, we reported that Polyphony Digital were scrapping Gran Turismo HD and pooling all their resources into creating Gran Turismo 5 for the PS3, something which many fans were happy about. They planned to release a demo on December 24 for Gran Turismo HD and then leave it in the dust, but now it appears to be a "preview" of Gran Turismo 5 which they are going to release.

The title of the demo is Gran Turismo HD Concept, which is in essence a mix of Gran Turismo HD with a few developments from Gran Turismo 5. Confused? You should be. To be perfectly honest, we aren't exactly sure whether this is mostly Gran Turismo HD or Gran Turismo 5, but it's definitely related to both games because according Kazunori Yamauchi from Polyphony Digital, the demo will include the game engine of GT5. He also revealed that the circuit will be the new Eiger Nordwand, playable in both normal and reverse modes, and that 10 cars will be included in the demo.

Here's the list of those cars:
  • Suzuki Cappuccino '95
  • Mazda Eunos Roadster '89
  • Honda Integra Type R'04
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV GSR'96
  • Infinity G35 Coupe
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR'05
  • Lotus Elise 111R'04
  • Nissan Sky Liner GT-R V Spec II '94
  • Toyota Celica GT-FOUR Rally Car '95
  • Ferrari 599'06
So that just about covers every car range from small, cheap and slow, to big, expensive and fast in a small 10-car list. You'll start off with the Suzuki Cappuccino and then have to work your way through a time attack mode in order to unlock the other vehicles. Sound fun? Well, Japanese gamers can download this from December 24 via the PlayStation Store, but no word as of yet on whether other territories will get the demo at all.

» Please, North American Release

The PS3 holds no 'Killer app' for people that don't like first person shooters. I need this demo, preview, whatever the hell they call it to tie me over - so I'm going to invest into some better computer hardware and continue racing my simulations there.

PLEASE RELEASE THIS IN NORTH AMERICA - I NEED TO PLAY THIS, NOW!

» Free?

Anyone know if this will cost money or will it be free? Hey cwirsing, you should make a guide to show the rest of us how to make a Japanese account. Tell us what option...example, choose the first option or choose the second option. Or, do no choose the default option that the cursor is on, but right arrow button to the next option.

» Here you go

In order to do it (last I checked US PS store doesn't have it) you have to follow these steps:

(Taken from the PS3 forums)

you need an extra e-mail address

-You need a Hong Kong street address so... just Google a hotel's address in Hong Kong ("Hong Kong hotel address")

-Make another USER on your Playstation 3...THEN GO MAKE ANOTHER PLAYSTATION STORE ID (Another Master account)

-*Select "HONG KONG" instead of "UNITED STATES" when you register*

DO NOT Pick japan!Unlike the Japanese PS Store, the Hong Kong store is in English(Also the Demos are in English too.)

» No Reason for No US release

There's no reason that Sony can't release a U.S. version. History recalls companies not doing stuff like this due to distribution. Distribution problem has been solved.. it's the frakkin internet for chrissakes.

» thanks

That's a much nicer way than having to memorize how the english form works then doing it in japanese.

I'm making another account right now.

» confirmed

I did it today and registered in Taiwan using information I found on the net to fill in blanks. I also made a Yahoo Taiwann Account for the e-mail.

Just make sure when your doing this that you enter your age around 1985 and below because being 18 you will still need parent premission on the network.

Downloading the GTHD trailer now.
