It's never easy to see a beautiful car damaged, especially if it's an Audi R8. Even when it's just a scene from a racing game like Gran Turismo 5, it still can't be helped but feel that ouch.
Check out this model of Gran Turismo 5's damage model in the streets of Rome:

at least they could have made a believable damage like on GTA4.... still GT5 does look lush.

If GT5 was gonna do anything other than cosmetic/performance damage, then you'd probably need the driver to get damaged/killed (as you'd expect at 90mph into a wall).
GT5 is about driving, not crashing... and if you are crashing, you're doing something wrong.

*Fender gets a little loose*
Hmm...either Audi's are hardy as f*ck or the cars still seem pretty invincible...

As long as things like hitting walls will be penalised by worse car performance (which, as far as I know, will), damage modeling is a nice extra, but not really important.
I'm really happy how this game looks so far and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

the car damage physics is missing? come on now. i'm still giving leaning on forza 3 but i'm hoping that the retail version of GT5 is better than this footage sample.

if this game has no damage effects then i'm definately not going to pre-order this for $60 and i'm not going to stand in line outside of gamestop till midnight. i've been a GT fan since days of GT2 on the PS1. 5 yrs of development for this? no thanks.
