Gran Turismo 5 is a big game. The car count alone attests to that. Of course, games cost money, and big ones even more so. So just how money much did Polyphony Digital use to make Gran Turismo 5? US$ 60 million, says boss Kazunori Yamauchi.

Yamauchi made the revelation during an interview with Autoweek.com. He further added, "There are other games that cost more. Considering the size and scale of the game, I think it's probably a fairly small amount."

Yamauchi didn't make it clear if that figure includes marketing costs, but it's still pretty high. It's still way less than Grand Theft Auto 4's estimated US$ 100 million budget, though.

» Statistics

GT1 sold over 10 million

GT2 sold over 9 million

GT3 sold over 14 million

GT4 sold over 10 million

I expect GT5 to sell over 10-15 million

Besides, they only need to sell 1 million to break even at $60 price point. The extra 9 million will be pure profit. Not including DLC.

You know it's gonna happen. ;D

» well

They will prob get their money back in the long run... but not right away.

Bryue... of that $60 you pay for a game, only a small amount goes to the developer. Out of that $60 you get pieces that go to the store that's selling it, the publisher of the game (in this case Sony) for promoting the product and other hands along the line.
