Goodbye games: Sony ceases work on Eight Days and The Getaway 3 |
Ó
Sad news from the game development front today. Games Industry reports that the Sony London Studio has stopped work on two of its previously in-development titles: The Getaway 3 and Eight Days. A statement from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe explains the reasons behind the cancellations:
It has been agreed that production of both Eight Days and The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of resources and budget.
This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resource should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion.
It's a shame that we won't get to see those two games out in the market. By all accounts, it appeared as if Eight Days was nearing completion. The Getaway was a pretty good game back on the PlayStation 2, so a sequel would have been nice. In any case, it seems folks will have to go elsewhere for their action-adventure games.

thats a shock.
getaway3 would have been nice. Its an already proven and tested franchise
The Getaway Was Well Good :(
New GTA In London Pl0x?
I never heard of both of the games, so not a big loss for me.
Sucks for the people who were looking forward to them, though.
we want more games, wtf is that about "it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future".
more games, the better.
i was really waiting for those 2. ffffffffff*****
i HATE you sony, what the hell are you smoking??
The Getaway was GREAT, you better freakin make it.
I know a number of people waiting for eight days and I atleast had an eye on the getaway 3 (hoping they did the controls/camera right). Lets hope they're atleast paused while they finish other projects eh?
I find it hard to believe that you have owned a PS2 and not know what the getaway is....... or maybe yer oblivious to the 3 games out under the franchise name(one for the PSP)
8 days looked so damn kool! what the hell!
I never got into The Getaway, though it looks kinda cool to me. However, I was waiting for 8 Days. This is such a disappointment... Sony, please don't do this...
I hope the game that they dedicated those "resources" to flop... Getaway 3 was gonna be awesome. \
doesn't mean the games are cancelled, just put on hold. im sure sony will start work again end of this year, early next when this years titles are done and out of the way.
to b fair, im wit silver tiger sort of, i have been gaming for a wee while, and i havent heard anything along da lines of eight days, and i think i have heard a tiny bit bout getaway, but i could b confusing that with another game... doesnt sound like a big loss to me, sorry :S
Yeah, there's a difference between "canceled" and "production being halted".
it actually says "stopped" not cancelled.
guess they're concentrating on Home and others
The Game that I was hoping to play on my PS3 was Gataway
.This is very disappointing news, man.
Sony has to come with a plan to release these games in the future.
Man, I own all three Getaway games, The two on PS2 and the one on PSP,The Getaway:"Gangs of London".
I really dig this game, because it was different to GTA and I could visit London and explore it.
It was so hard to find info about the Getaway 3 on PS3, now I know why. Still, judging by the tech demo Sony rolled out a few years ago showing London's Piccadilly Circus they had a good game engine in development, perhaps it was too complex to use for the whole game? Anyway, this can only fuel rumours that the next GTA is to be blighty bound, GTA: London anyone?
