Because mashing Square + Square + Triangle isn't enough for control freaks

It's no secret that Kratos will grace this year's E3 with his presence. Already, Sony's even made an announcement about an announcement: they'll be revealing God of War III's release date during the event. But what else will we get to see (or hear) about Kratos' trek up Olympus?

According to The Bitbag, we'll get lots of footage and more details - especially about controls. Says one Torrence Davis of The Bitbag:

An insider at Sony has not only confirmed that there will be tons of God Of War 3 footage at E3, but also hinted that Sony fans will be getting some motion controls very soon.

While the footage part is to be expected, what gives me pause here is the bit about motion control. Back in February, it was revealed that the dev team at SCE Santa Monica said they didn't want to put in tilt-sensing controls because they couldn't figure out a way to incorporate it seamlessly. Doing so would have made it look "forced or gimmicky."

Ah well, whatever the case is, E3 is just around the corner now. We'll find out for sure come early June.

» I could see motion control

I could see motion control being awesome!! Imagine when kratos throws his chains and latches into a beast to slam its head on the ground!! Now you can actually mimic the throwing and the slamming!!

I think it'd be cool if you tilt the controller to dodge, instead of using the right analog stick. of course make it optional since some people wouldnt care for it.

» Time to return to that feature

I'd love to see a BIG game release like GOW3 highlight usage of the motion controls. It's really implemented well (functionally/physically) in the PS3 controller, and it's a shame that the feature has gotten such bad press. (Makes one wonder why it is that the external sensor-based, inaccurate Wii controllers are so well-regarded, and yet the self-contained, precise PS3 Sixaxis is not.)

Motion Control on PS3 needs to be re-focused on. It has been all but forgotten of late. For example, I picked-up that SBK Bike game a bit ago: why in the world does that NOT have motion control? --That's the PERFECT reason to use it: lean your bike with motion, while still steering with the sticks. ...I'm hoping Virtua Tennis 2009 might also use motion control.

It just could only be a big plus if GOW3 effectively gets people used to motion control on PS3. Outside of Warhawk, Motorstorm 1, High Velocity Bowling, and Blast Factor ....there haven't even been many ATTEMPTS at using motion control, --let alone, effectively.

» Motion controls...

In all the games I've played, with only one exception, motion controls on PS3 have be horrible. If they do include them, they must be optional or extremely well done. If done poorly in such a high profile exclusive it could possibly be the first nail in the coffin for non-wiimote style motion controllers, possibly the beginning of the end of classic controllers all together.

» Eh?

My guess is that they could show off (I say that loosely) that new motion-controller they patented to implement into GoW3. Otherwise, I don't see it being much use for Six-axis, for obvious reasons. Six-axis has been pretty booty and I'd be lying if I said it's been a great addition. It's good if it's used properly but they're better off being optional. Anyways, that's the -rumor- right now that we'll see the new motion-controller at E3. So if it's true and is executed properly, GoW3 would be a great game to start off that motion-controller craze. However if it sucks, it better be optional, but Sony wasn't born yesterday so they know they can't force the controls.

"possibly the beginning of the end of classic controllers all together."

Heh. Sorry, don't believe that for one second lol. Clearly you don't think of every genre and the limits of motion-controls, not to mention fighting games which would require PRECISE movements to execute possibly 120+ moves for a single character. And don't say you don't care for the fighting genre, because it's actually a good market. Also, menu-based RPGs gain next to nothing from motion-controls.

» uhmm..

I don't want to wave a wand like the Wii-mote - that's is why we are not seem that in PS3 controllers well developed. Besides, the PS3 controller waving around is not very comfortable. I like the controller like it is now for GOW I and II - add little things here and there but do not change the controller - try to change the game so much that it becomes crappy - If you gonna add motion please make it an options not an obligation.
