God of War III devs concerned about game getting banned in Australia |

Australian gamers have long lamented the difficulties that the lack of an 18+ rating has caused in their home country. Almost every year, we hear about high-profile games being banned or watered down just so they can squeeze past the Office of Film and Literature Classification's (OFLC) tight screening process.
Entries in Sony's God of War series have so far been able to arrive safely in the territory, but according to Digital Life, the developers of God of War III have expressed concern about whether or not the game will be able to do the same.
"There is (concern)," said art director Sean Cunningham. "We try to push the boundaries a little bit. (But) weÂ’ve had meetings and discussions and internally we all have a good gauge on whatÂ’s 'too far'."
One person's idea of what goes too far doesn't necessarily hold true for another, though, so Cunningham and the rest of the God of War III dev team have constantly been checking in with screening bodies to know exactly what's OK for them to put in the game.
"You throw something past them and they might say 'Absolutely not! You could not do that!' and weÂ’re all like: 'Aww, cÂ’mon, that was a great idea!' There have been a couple of thoseÂ…"
Cunningham also gave a taste of what fans can expect from the series' first PS3 outing. "The disembowelment of the centaur, ripping Helios’s head off, the reaction from the floor has been amazing. Everybody in the studio is very happy.”
God of War III is due to be released in 2010. We'll know then if the scenes Cunningham described prove to be acceptable for the OFLC.

Videogame censorship is ultimately irrelevant when Australia has effectively banned the rights of free-thinking, rational, responsible adults to keep and bear arms.
This videogame stuff is merely a symptom of a far larger, oppressive, problem.

And speaking of irrelevant, what the hell has this got to do with our lack of an R rating for video games anyway?
We're not some dictatorship country that's *****ing suppressed of all our free rights jeez man get a grip.

Yes, YES YOU ARE. Don't you see it?
I disagree with owning guns, therefore nobody should have that right.
F'ing fascists.
Now you'll reply with something stupid like "but in the US you blah blah blah" and immediately think that, because one wrong is permitted, another one should be. Australia is seriously F'ed, and this fascist control over videogames is one facet over it.
Open your eyes and realize that the GOVERNMENT runs you and not the other way around.
Or, continue going on your merry way to the slaughterhouse.

It's crap, we're taking the path of China, and it's the worst path a country could ever follow.

What a f'ing retard you are. It's not about what one country has vs what another one doesn't. You want to turn this into a country vs country flameware BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO ARGUMENT.
WHY SHOULD ANY government restrict violent videogames? Are Australians (as well as ANYBODY ELSE) too stupid to recognize the difference between video games and reality?
Ask yourself this, "why is this banned by my government? Why are they AFRAID of me doing this or owning this? Why don't they trust my judgment in my own matters?"
I say the argument about R-rated games is irrelevant becaus you can't even DEFEND YOUR OWN LIFE should you have to. Your government has DECIDED FOR YOU that you are TOO STUPID and TOO IRRESPONSIBLE to handle firearms without their approval.

you want to kill someone in australia, you do it face to face.
you want to kill someone in US, point and shoot.
it should NOT be that easy to end a life.
you hold onto an obselete amendment that was sposed to give americans the right to bear arms in case the english invaded again, i dont see that happening now.
right to bear arms is obselete!!!!

I'm not even sure WHERE to begin correcting this erroneous statement. The only conclusion I can come up with is that you heard someone spout this nonsense without having read the Constitution or ANY historical documents from either the US's founding fathers or the philosphies and philosophers upon which the US Constitution was built.
Let me pose this one conundrum:
Why would the Second Amendment, arguably the one that ENSURES the rest of the Bill of Rights et. al., be solely for the defense against a possible British invastion when one of the purposes of the US Constitution was to SET UP A FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CAPABLE OF RAISING ITS OWN MILITARY AND WAGING WAR?

hold on to your precious right.
when someone you know gets held up at gun point remember this.
Your government has DECIDED FOR YOU that you are TOO STUPID and TOO IRRESPONSIBLE to handle firearms without their approval
i agree with this to a degree
people are too stupid and irresponsible to hold firearms, thats why australia dont have it.
a person is smart but people are dumb.
its because you just cant trust the whole population with something that can end life with a squeeze.
but your last comment i agree with because it was a point based on what ive heard.
but please see my side as well.
you cant tell me USA would have same murder and violent crime rate if guns werent readily available.

@Aces In The Palm - The whole guns being accessible to U.S and the crime rate is a broken down record player repeating the same crap.
It's irrelevant to this article.
I'm sick of hearing the BS about guns and our Crime rate when other places have just as much as a crime rate and they don't have guns.
This is just something people hold against us cause they don't have any rights to bear arms and feels their precious government is helping them.
The whole right to bear arms isn't exclusive to The british. It gives us the right to overthrow our government if they start to become tyrants and idiots.
I will not say anymore cause It's a stupid debate which has nothing to do on here
I feel bad for the Australians who have to deal with pure ignorance and idiocy by people not allowing games, mature games at that, in their country. They're far worse than Jack Thompson imo. Maybe if they actually try educating the parents about video games, then this wouldn't be a problem.
Violent videos has no EFFING history at all to crimes. If they was playing a violent game and did crimes then the person was already mentally messed up to begin with but people like them want to find the scapegoat to a problem they don't feel like studying and investigating PROPERLY.
I'm not an Australian but you know what? I'd rather the game get banned in Australia then get toned down and become $h!t
@xXxZEROxXx - what the hell are you talking about? How is being able to ride Kangaroos any consolation to a bunch of idiots running AUS and not letting the actual adults have the right to play Mature games? That statement is beyond Ludicrous.
