Gearbox president Randy Pitchford has said that although he's a fan of Bungie and Infinity Ward's output for the past few years, he's still anxiously waiting for both studios to announce projects that are not related to their current bread-and-butter franchises.

Pitchford told VideoGamer, “I keep waiting to hear what Bungie is going to do that’s not Halo. Those guys are amazing, right? They walk on water! And the same with Infinity Ward. It’s like, dude I’m totally psyched to get my Call of Duty fix every year, but you guys are amazing! What else have you got? Can you give me something I haven’t seen before?”

He further added that the current state of the market definitely has forced a lot of developers to play it safe instead of taking risks on new IP.

"The folks that are innovating need to be rewarded so that the folks that are making big bets can take that risk. It’s too big of a risk for Infinity Ward to do anything but what they’re doing, because there’s too much value and there’s really big scope for it.”

Hate the player

Its not that the developers are one-trick ponies. Its that their audience have one-track minds.

...

Nobody is buying anything, so the market is volatile. So we'll make things that won't appeal to new buyers (people who haven't bought anything of ours before because the content doesn't impress them), and then continue to spout that nothing is selling, the market must be volatile.

Snake eating it's tail if you ask me.
