It's now official folks, Sony's upcoming PS3 motion controller will be called "PlayStation Move", the company has announced, fresh from its Game Developers Conference press event today.

According to Sony, the PlayStation Move will be bundled in various forms to suit various gamers, including a "starter kit" that will include the new hardware, a PlayStation Eye and an unnamed game for under US$ 100. Aside from the new device, the company has also announced the "PlayStation Move Sub-Controller" that works similar to the Wii's Nunchuk.

Old titles and new contents are expected to support Sony's new device. Games such as LittleBigPlanet, EyePet, the upcoming SOCOM 4, Capcom's Resident Evil 5 and Electronic Arts Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 are among the first to be confirmed. Sony also showed off a mini-game compilation called Sports Champion and Move Party that will fully utilize the PlayStation Move. The motion controller is expected to arrive this fall.

What's your take on this guys? Are you excited about this? Do you like the name? I think Arc sounds cooler.

Good grief Charlie Brown, could you have picked a blander name?

Even "Play Station Stick-controller-with-ball-on-top" would have been more imaginative.

Then again Sony and Japan in general always pick sterile naming schemes

I'm excited and will possibly buy it when/if I can afford it. As for now I have only one video game purchase planned for this year.

..the name went from Arc to Move? That's a horrible name, but at least it's accurate.. although I do remember when they announced the official name of the Wii. I thought it was horrible, the Nintendo Revolution sounded a lot better but the Wii sounds nice now.

I don't like the new name at all. Companies seem to do this all the time. They come up with cool names for their beta projects, then use lame names when it becomes final. Arc was so much better.

People will get used to it quickly. Rememebr when the name "Arc" first surfaced? Everybody said "nah, i don't this name" and now everybody called it this thing Arc. It won't belong until Move is widely accepted.

Goddamn, this thing screams: "Casuals! Casuals only!"

'Playstation Move'?
Even the person who came up with that name is aware of the kind of audience who will abuse this piece of tech.

Sometimes I really wonder why SONY, and even NINTENDO don't be ashamed for these "technological releases" (can you see the quotes??). You know things should be better but actually what happens is that we have devices released YEARS ago that already did it, and better if you guys allow me to say...WIIMOTE? PLAYSTATION MOVE? Well, let me say that POWER GLOVE already dit it, and did it at its best. With POWER GLOVE you really really could feel the immersion in the game. It was released for NES, years ago, and was a acessorie that you wear on your hand, giving direct acces to all comands off the game. Let me post a pic here for you guys behold the device:
http://cache.kotaku.com/gaming/powerglove.jpg

you can check all the details in this pic. I would dare to say that POWER GLOVE carries the same technology whose NATAL from Microsoft carries and we are talking about a motion controller released more than 10 years ago pals. As I already said in another post, Sony stills keep copying, but never, never they'll achieve what POWER GLOVE achieved...total immersion through gameplay. And to prove this, you guys can and should check a post from some days ago in X360 section of QJ where the Natal Motion Controller creator (I dont remember his name sorry) says in all the words that NATAL was a project, quoting him: "THAT WOULD TRY TO REACH THE GREATNESS AND EPICNESS THAT POWER GLOVE REACHED IN PAST". Big words from a great creator, live and learning, look the past before look into the future.

Take care guys.
