Yes, we know, GDC 2007 is so last week already. Sorry if GameTrailers only got to getting their GDC interview with Terra Soft Solutions CEO Kai Staats up and streaming today. This interview is dedicated to the love Yellow Dog Linux has for the PS3 (or is it the other way around?).

Call it the video 411 on YDL-4-PS3. He shows off YDL running off the console, including its applications - and comparing the PS3 to some high-end IBM systems (thank goodness then IBM's part of the Cell team, right?). Yep, this inty is all about geeking out on processor specs (as we sure a few geeks here will, soon enough). Well, this is what you get when Sony wants their PS3 to push it at any cost:

» Wifi?

What will be very sweet is if the internal Wifi card of the PS3 was usable on YDL !!! No chance I pull cables everywhere in my house...

» I'm with WIFI above me

Where the hell are the wireless drivers. I spent time and money keeping my setup pretty and the wireless card is still not open. DAMN YDL!!!

» So........

ok so if/when they access the video card ill be able to run my pc games on there

» yes it does

There are 9 cores in the cell processor. Theres a PowerPC main general purpose core, then there are 8 specialized cores.

Here's some education material for you:

» Do some research

I wish people would do a little research before posting stuff in boards. Google is an awesome tool....USE IT.

» Yellow Dog Needs to...

Yellow Dog Needs to punch Adobe in the d1ck and get a PPC Linux Flash app working.

There is a request form at Adobe's web page so if you want Flash, fill it out.

» I hear ya bro...

When will they get the internal WiFi working!!

» yeah what he said!^^^

yeah i want to know that too.

» NO THANKS!

Linux BLOWS! Nobody cares about an OS that's held together with spit and duct-tape. I'd rather hammer a 6 inch steel pipe into my skull, than put Linux on my PS3. (And yes, I've been using Linux at work for 4 years now. It's TERRIBLE!)

» It's better than windows...

If we had the ability to have Mac's OS then it would be a different story.

» Can't wait for Nvidia Drivers...

I am sure that Sony is really interested in getting some drivers and such for the nvidia gpu. I think that will open up a lot of options. Although I have seen quite a few people trying to play Runescape on YDL - it's not a hardware intensive game.

Btw, when they say they will be able to play 3d accelerated games - they won't be able to play windows games. I highly doubt that happening.

If it does - I would turn a ps3 into my racing simulation box instead of my pc. But, emulating windows then trying to run a PC game is killer on a system processor wise - the optimization would need to be ground breaking for anyone to play Command and Conquer 3 PC on YDL.
