GDC 09: Noby Noby Boy developed on Xbox 360, but PS3's analog design won Takahashi over

Did you know that the amusing, eccentric Noby Noby Boy on the PS3 was developed on the Xbox 360? Yep, that's true. This was what creator Keita Takahashi revealed at the GDC this week. So what is it doing on the PSN then? Because, he said, he doesn't like seeing people playing games on the handheld in the subway.

Hold it, his statements are just about to get more interesting (as always). "Maybe it's not such a good thing if a game sells a lot of copies. So we put it on the PS3 as a download only title so it wouldn't sell as many." Okay, he was joshing on that one.

But seriously: it was the PS3 controllers that won him over. He said he liked how the analogue sticks on the PS3 are aligned horizontally, unlike the asymmetrical design on the Xbox 360 controller. And he's even got images to prove it!

Anyhow, despite it being originally developed in the Xbox 360, there doesn't seem to be any chance of it heading over there. "Well, this game is not being sold well, so I can't support Xbox at all."

I don't know how serious he was about that one.

# I agree 100% about the controllerr4c777 2009-03-26 16:56
but then again, I can't use my right hand.

anyone know of a 360 controller that is set up like a ps3/ps2 controller(hori z analog sticks, possibly convex triggers, or better yet, ps2 style buttons that are pressure sensitive) the big thing out of it all though, is the analog position.

So its not selling well? maybe they should release a time limited demo. I don't even think i've seen a video.

Im all for trying out well known games without a demo, e.g. flower. but anything else sort of needs to proove itself first.

Yup, that's one of the things I hated when I owned an Xbox. I like the controls symetrical. Just feels far more natural.

I know Ben Heckendorn has put a 360 controller in a PS3 shell, but I'm sure it's not easy. There is no product you can buy

I guess it's mostly just preference, but I was surprised how everyone so far has posted saying they prefer PS controllers. Most of the sites I browse greatly prefer the 360 pad. I'm in that boat as well, I buy every multiplatform game for my 360 because of the controller, just can't stand the loose oversized sticks on the PS controllers and the shoddy bumper/trigger buttons, though that d-pad is nice. And to a lesser extent because of Achievements. I already got over 100k, can't stop now lol

the thing about the controllers is: if your thumbs are the same length, the. go with the ps3. if your left thumb is twice as long, then go with the 360 controllers. if you do not have thumbs then use the Wii balance board.

I like the analog stick set up more on the 360 for fps and such, its just more spaced out than the dualshock. However the dpad and button layout is better on ps3.
