Yes, Bob, the man-skirt has no physics.

You've seen the cyclops riding vid from earlier, yes? If not, I suggest you do so now. That footage was taken from a God of War III panel with SCE Santa Monica's developers, Jim Tilander and Vassily Fillipov.

After showing the cyclops demo clip, they revealed some itty bitty info that you guys might want to hear. First up, the game will not be locked at a 60fps rate. As some of you might have expected, it's going to have to drop a bit during certain scenes in the game. Don't worry though, the two devs reassure everyone that it won't go below 30fps.

They were also asked about the physics behind rendering clothes in the game, and to this, Tilander responded with the following:

I guess you might be surprised to hear this, but God of War 3 doesn't have physics. So does that answer your question?

Umm. I'm afraid it didn't. In fact, I'm betting it's raised more questions (and eyebrows too, for sure).

I, for one, don't mind not seeing Kratos' balls when his "loincloth" blows in the wind.

Nice.

I don't think the game needs physics like in the way people think - great animation quality can do amazing things, God of War2 on the PS2 proved just that.

If it's done well there is nothing wrong with animations opposed to physics.

If anything it may look better, as you wont have hair and clothes "clip" through body parts...which always looks bad.

Making animations for everything that should have physics takes alot of time though....

Curious if there are no physics at all in the game....they gotta have some sort of ragdolls for when you kill enemies....will be interesting to hear more.

it wont be at 60 FPS is because it is being made on the failstation 3 tbh they could do alot more if it was on the Best console of all time the XBOX 360!

usually prescripted animations look way better than what physics engines will belt out. The only problem is that you'll need to program in a crap ton of animations to make things not look repetitive. A physics engine usually alleviates these whoas, but then you're stuck with unrealistic stuff occurring. I mean just compare a ragdoll physics death with a scripted animated death, and you can see the difference.

I assume you have no life, no friends, and live in your mother's basement eating bags and bags of Lay's endlessly. Please, keep going, it's amusing to see you make a complete idiot out of yourself.

congratulations melty!!!

your twisted minds even amazes even 360 fans!

-------------------------------------------

now about the news, i m not really sure what to say.

i guess what he means is they didnt use a physics software engine and since they are throwing a lot of enemies on screen at once the frame rate wont stay 60 all the time. it will go below 60 but will stay above 30.

Poor baby, I'm sorry Halo 3 and Gears 2 really disappointed you fanboys. They had so much potential yet failed. God of War is exclusive first party, unlike the first two games I listed, they take their time to make each game great. God of War 1 and 2 was touted as the best action games last generation, which also includes pushing the PS2 to absolute limits. God of War 2 surpassed the first title in a short time frame, which never happens with new franchises. Of course you'd expect quality when the franchise was made by David Jaffe, who is responsible for one of the best game of all time with twisted Metal. Continue hoping your 360 doesn't get the Red Ring of Death or the new hardware error that has come to light thanks to the NXE. Although I don't see why you feel the need to back up a inanimate object like 360. MS doesn't care about you, they care about making money like all companies.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
Anyway to the article, interesting that's it's not 60fps constant, although makes sense with how the game is being made. I for one don't mind it tbh, I'm more concerned at the game playing great and feeling like a true God of War. As for the no physics, that's new information I haven't heard yet. Quite cool, hoping to see what more is said about this.
