With Killzone 2 setting the videogame community ablaze with spectacular visuals and high-end production values in its showing at E3, it certainly doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out why information about the game's features, while being kept tightly under wraps by Guerrilla Games, is of high demand. To cater to the more info-hungry among us, here's a video of the game in action, captured in GC: Leipzig - and it's about how you'll be able to take advantage of your environment to survive.

In this video, we see how a player can use the game's unique lean and peek system to effectively use cover. With a mere press of the SIXAXIS' L1 button, players can duck into low cover. While it certainly offers an improved defense - i.e. bullets not tearing into your soft body - you can't really shoot your enemies in this state, right? That's what the forward button is all about, which lets you stand clear of cover. Now you can attack, but there's a problem - you've now left the safety of your cover, and thus are liable to get hit.

Fortunately, Killzone 2 also provides a happy median, in the form of blind firing. Simply press the fire button while holding the relevant shoulder button, and you'll draw your gun to blindly fire above cover. Your aim is limited here, of course, but now you're attacking while defending. Neat!

Check out the video embed below for the skinny on the lean and peek system, as well as some cool gameplay eye candy. Enjoy!

Does anyone else think this seems like a rip-off of Gears of War? I know it's not in third person because that's why they probably didn't want it in third person but it seems wicked similar.

by Lee - 2007-08-30 12:22
» No.

I don't see how it could be a ripoff Gears of War since Killzone was made before GoW came out.

Not just the first two titles, but this game in particular has been in dev. for years. So no.

In regards to Multiplayer...WE WANT VEHICLES!!!

» uhh..

Even if gears was made first this dosnt seem anything like it... If you ever see a killzone1 gameplay video you'll notice were most of the things in killzone 2 come from.

yes... this game need that... it will be the best shooter... halo is overhyped... never liked halo... gears of wars was a lot better and maybe it will be better than the new halo... but this game is beyon this two... this game needs a kick ass multiplayer.. a lot of people only play the multiplayer

Killzone stole gears of war's lean and peak system.... lol, that's like saying halo stole golden eye's first person shooter system. No one stole anything, you can't claim something that's in a game.

Killzone 2 ftw

» Three things i have to admit

!. Im a ps3 fanboy 2. Killzone does seem like gears of war killer. 3 halo three is going to be vicious. But seriously just admit it halo an a amazing game and i'll tell you why. Because it carries the whole package. There's usually something a game is missing, something that could make it so much better. But halo comes online coop, online multiplayer, a good story, good music, good physics, whatever. Its just a game that is worth paying 60 bucks for. i'm not saying that games that are not like halo are bad. i just wish they would come with everything worth 60 bucks. Hopefully killzone will be worth that 60 bucks

» ^^^Please shut up about Halo

This is about Killzone, so stick to the topic please.

» True

The lean and peak system has been reused by many video games all the time. People just experienced it the most with Gears of War. Killzone never stole the idea. It's been there since Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid 2, Syphon Filter, Tenchu, and many more games.

I'd say if someone say Killzone stole GoW's lean and peek system, then it's just something like Halo stole the FPS idea of Doom.

halo has everything that makes it worth paying 60 bucks.

hopefully the devs will add coop (on/offline).

Is it me, or is the person playing this game a BAD gamer? JUST GET IN THERE!

He is not playing the game... he is demonstrating the game... There's a difference in that.

» hmm

I'm personally leaning more towards Halo at this point because of the visuals. NOT because I think it's technically superior(I think KZ2 wins-out in this regard) but because I like the design of Halo. It's just.. livelier? i guess? I think the large amounts of gray in KZ would get to me at some point.

We are very different in that regard. That is exactly what I dislike about Halo, how lively it looks. It's too colorful for my taste. FPS's are about war and war is not pretty. I loved GOW and RFOM because of their gritty look and gameplay of course. No matter how good the graphics are it just doesn't seem real if you have Red, Blue, and Green enemys. lol I own a PS3 and a 360 I've already pre-ordered Halo 3 but I definitely will be spending more time playing Killzone 2. I don't think it's right to charge people for playing on-line, especially when they have so much advertisement splattered all over the dashboard and the marketplace. I don't have a Gold account and I loved playing Gears on line. But once my free month subscription to Gold expired I never played on line again on my 360. It's not that I'm cheap, (that's obviously not the case as I have the 360 and the PS3) but I just don't think it's right. Halo might be the game to get me to buy a gold account but I'm not sure if I'll be getting the full year subscription though. Killzone will definitely kick some serious ass. And that's my 2 cents. Oh and if you wanna talk about stealing ideas you should take a look at Killswtich and then see who stole what from whom. lol http://www.gametrailers.com/player/1798.html You guys should really check this out and then talk about who stole what.

He might just be demonstrating the game but hes doing a poor job of it. He should kick some ass to show how effective these features are. He's gotta sell it to the audience.

» low res

is it me or are the vast majority of the textures on killzone 2 so low res like when he uses the wall for cover this is the main difference between halo 3 and killzone halo 3 uses hi res textures on everything not just the player models

» gameplay

gameplay wise gears of war is lot more slower than killzone2 that fat son of the ***** dosent move backward or in right or left fast just runs forward like bull graphicaly killzone is best game ever made till now because ps3 has just started to show unbelievable graphics and detail which xbox360 can never give because of dvd now for ps3 there is lot more to come because these all games are devloped on 3d engine but 4d engine is in devlopment by epic and sony if u dont beleave check out www.psu.com site shows video from 4d engine thats why ps3 is only true next genration platform

» PS3 owners I thought you didnt like FPS games ?

Trouble is dont PS3 owners NOT like FPS games ? and now that Lair and Heavenly sword are giving these games around 5 out of 10 this has better be more than good...............

by rtytry - 2007-08-31 08:59
» This isnt even close to GEars yet alone Bioshock

This is nothing like Gears of War, Gears had a totlly never seen before scroling, this game looks just like RFOM type of play NOTHING SPECIAL...

by gfhgfh - 2007-08-31 09:03
» This game could be doomed

God if this was on both systems you would not even comment, so PS3 owners if this is as bad as Lair and Heavenly sword reviews are turning out to be maybe you should say nothing, and 360 owners you have GEARS, Bioshock, Halo etc so why comment on this post?..

by Apu - 2007-08-31 11:30
» Um

Only when a teaser gaming footage is when the actual content be awesome. As far as demonstrating the game, the only key features needed to be demonstrated are satisfactory enough. In this video, his goal is just to let everyone know about the peek/lean system.

It's informing not MARKETING nor ADVERTISING. Who knows, what if after the cut, he pawned all of those AI's... including the ones on his team?
