GC: Haze Multiplayer Knife Fight and Shootout Cam gameplay videos

Some would argue that if there's one thing all First Person Shooters has got to have, it's good multiplayer - and some are certainly happy that Free Radical's upcoming title, Haze (PS3, Xbox 360, PC), is sporting what could be one of the most intense multiplayer experiences ever to hit the FPS genre. Yes, armchair marksmen, this gameplay video update of Haze is all about having a ridiculously fun time with other people in Haze - and it doesn't look half bad at all.

In these videos, we see two aspects of a typical multiplayer round in Haze - that is, utilization of the knife and some of the many projectile weapons in the game. In Multiplayer Knife Fight, we see the player not using the aforementioned sharp object to slash and cut, no - he throws the darn things, and we're all but floored as he literally clears a hallway full of enemies with 'em.

The other video, Shootout Cam, gets us behind the sights of a player raining fire and brimstone down on his opponents - the fact that you can see how many shots you have left is pretty neat.

Free Radical certainly looks to have an FPS classic on their hands. Add to that a riveting storyline that's not only mature but deals with today's world matters, and Haze looks considerably epic from this viewpoint. Updates as we get them, so enjoy the videos!

» exclusive?

why does half the publications say that its a ps3 exclusive while the other half say its still for xbox 360 and pc as well (GI says that the developer confirmed ps3 exclusivity and i believe g4 also confirmed this at e3)

» Free Radical Hates Microsoft

If you didn't know already here's a history lesson:

- Rare makes Goldeneye/Perfect Dark.

- Microsoft buys Rare for Xbox.

- Goldeneye/Perfect Dark team leaves and makes Free Radical led by Dave Doack and makes PS2 exclusive games with the exception of Time Splitters 2.

That being said, this game looks to be a bit nostalgic what with the knife fighting and "slappers" and proximity mines. Here's to hoping that a new Goldeneye is before us

» cool

this game looks really cool...there is just something unique about this game that makes a must buy for me.. with killzone for the ps3 and halo for 360 i think haze will also be in the gamers mind.

» ^^^Complete BS. Please get you facts right!

Free Radical was formed back in 1999! This was at a time when Rare were firmly part of Nintendo's 'Dream Team' for the N64. So if anything, they left because of Nintendo, because Nintendo had a say in everything Rare did, and therefore to do the games they wanted to do they decided to form their own company, Free Radical.

Microsoft bought Rare 3 YEARS later, in 2001.

So don't go giving history lessons unless you know your history!

» Cancellation

I heard (over at wikipedia) that Haze for 360 is cancelled. Could it be true?

by matt - 2007-08-25 12:36
» hmm

i'd buy it over killzone, i don't know how that guy took so many hits. Needs to be either faster, or more balanced to beat halo 3 or counterstrike

(Although I wouldn't use your language myself ;))

Those members left Rare between late 1998 and early 1999 (as your link states). Sony officially announced the PS2 in March 1999 and Free Radical were formed in April 1999.

http://arstechnica.com/cpu/1q99/playstation2-pr.html

At that time, Sony's were the market leaders with the Playstation, Sega were trying again with the Dreamcast after their failure with Saturn, and Nintendo's control over games was something they didn't want. Therefore Sony was the obvious choice for Free Radical.

The XBox didn't exist at that time (except as rumours), and was officially announced by Microsoft in March 2000. Then in September 2002, MS buys Rare (not 2001 as I typed in error in my last post).

http://money.cnn.com/2002/09/20/news/deals/rare/index.htm

That's 3 years and 4 months after Free Radical were formed, and about 4 years after their members started leaving Rare.

So anyone saying Free Radical were formed because of MS buying Rare are lazy idiots, because ALL the facts are available on the internet. Just a few minutes with Google is all that's required and yet too many gamers here seem incapable of checking their own so-called facts.

» Of course YOU would say that

But Haze looks like just another run of the mill FPS with a twist. Nothing special at all, and the hands-on previews seems to confirm this.

Not sure which Halo 3 videos you've seen, but those that I've seen makes me far more excited for Halo 3 than I am for Haze (and I wasn't a fan of Halo 2, I preferred the first game).

So you like Halo 2 HD (or as others call it Halo 3) over this. I suppose that it is somewhat reasonable but you have to give this game a chance because Halo 2 HD is only popular because of the other Halos, and there only popular because back then people has nothing to look forward to so basically they (Xbox owners) went towards Halo, thus making this game as hyped as it now. Halo 2 HD isnt exactly something to look forward to unless you like Halo 2, which Halo 2 HD basically is.

by Apu - 2007-08-25 20:10
» Ha

Halo 2 HD should even be in the same sentence as Counterstrike let alone a word away from it.

You're entitled to your opinion. Personally, I find it childish when gamers refer to other games and consoles with silly alternative names (Halo 2.5, Halo 2 HD, XBox 2.5, Gaystation 3, etc).

To each his own I guess, but I'm not going to resort to calling this game Laze or Hazy or something equally silly. It's 'Haze', whatever I think of the game itself today and in the future.

Anyway, I didn't say I dismiss Haze totally, I said at present, it doesn't look like anything special. I may be proven wrong later, and as a gamer I hope I am, but right now, Haze doesn't excite me at all.

You say Halo 3 is only popular because of the previous games, well duh, that applies to all game series, whether it's MGS4, GTA4, GT5 etc. All have gamers excited because of the other games in the series.

Also, there were MANY games on XBox which gamers looked forward to and enjoyed on the console besides Halo. The arguement that all XBox had was Halo is a favourite fanboy myth, like those today claiming all the 360 has is Gears of War.

When Halo was released on the XBox, NO FPS was doing all that Halo did and to the same quality (including PC FPSs). That's what made Halo special. Halo 2 was good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first game, and the ending didn't leave me feeling satisfied as a gamer. I'm just being honest. The same is true for other games series, were some gamers preferred MGS2 over MGS3 for example, but that doesn't make them any less excited for MGS4.

So yes, I'm looking forward to Halo 3 *far* more than I am for Haze. :)

To me, that game Halo 2 HD is just like Halo 2 with some new weapons and better graphics, I (personally) dont find anything to look for to on Halo 2 HD except for probably multi-player and ending the saga ("Finish The Fight"), and I think that is the only reason why others are going to buy this game.

by 5678-Jump - 2007-08-26 07:24
» Uh huh

"To me, that game Halo 2 HD is just like Halo 2 with some new weapons and better graphics"

Played it have you? Read the reviews?

And of course it's going to be an enhancement of the previous games, that's what we get with ALL sequels. So Halo 3 is as much Halo 2 HD as MGS4 is MGS3 HD, GTA4 is GTA3 HD, DMC4 is DMC3 HD etc.

So to me, your comment is ridiculous and as I said in my previous post, rather childish. :|

by Apu - 2007-08-26 08:28
» No

No the other games actually bring new thing with every sequal (except for grand theft auto which you were actually right about). IMO I havent seen anything that attracts me to Halo 2 HD and I'll leave at that.

by ACE - 2007-08-26 16:18
» Timed exclusive...

If you read the Haze website, you'll see, it is coming to 360.

by Jesus Christ - 2007-08-26 17:17
» Eh...

This game doesn't look to incredible, nothing special or anything just another shooter, kind of reminds me of F.E.A.R without the scary elements.

I guess I'd get this over KZ 2, but I mean there's so many other shooters that look either more innovative or at least do the old methods really well, i.e. Halo 3, UT 3, Bioshock, Gears, Resistance, etc etc. If its not a popular franchise, or not really solid, it's not gonna make it.

by 5678-Jump - 2007-08-27 03:20
» Nope

Those sequels haven't brought anything more than Halo 2 did to Halo. But I go back to my point, you haven't played Halo 3, it hasn't been reviewed, and it's only now they're releasing some info on the single player game, so it's rather dumb to presume you know what it does or doesn't bring to the series.

When the game is released, THEN you can talk, until then, your Halo 2 HD continues to be nothing but an unfounded childish remark.

So yes, I suggest you do leave it at that.

Goodbye.

by Apu - 2007-08-27 12:53
» Well

From the videos I've seen they look like Halo 2 in HD (hence Halo 2 HD). Personally I'm not (or havent) seen anything new that makes me want to buy Halo 2 HD. But thats is just my opinion, so if you like a famous FPS shooter than get this game. Thats all I have to say and I'll leave it at that, Period.

by PS34ME - 2007-08-27 18:40
» apu - just because you don't like halo

doesn't mean you have to act like an a-s-s.

to me, MGS4 looks like MGS3 HD (and the gameplay looks mostly the same too). DMC4 looks like a HD version of DMC3 too, same with many sequels. Personally, i haven't seen anything new that makes me *want* to buy those games, but I will because i liked the previous games.

that's what sequels are all about. No-one expects MGS4 to be cell-shaded with super deformed characters, just as no-one expects DMC4 to be a rpg or a racer. we WANT more of the same of the game we enjoys, and then some. so like 5678jump says, we have to wait and see what halo3 has to offer.

so go ahead, call it halo2 hd like an idiot, but by your dumb logic, that applies to every next-gen sequel to last-gen games, without exception so far. so you can look forward to MGS3 HD and DMC3 HD, i will look forward to MGS4, DMC4 and Halo 3.

idiot

» To answer your question.

Wikipedia is a useful source of information created by USERS. You and I can contribute if we want. Therefore it's not official information.

The official situation for Haze is that it's a timed exclusive for the PS3. Therefore it's being released on the PS3 first, with the PC and 360 versions to follow sometime next year.

by 5678-Jump - 2007-08-27 23:24
» Thanks PS34ME

That's exactly it, but given Apu's other comments in this thread, his attitude towards Halo 3 is to be expected.

by Apu - 2007-08-28 07:18
» 5678-Jump

You know what, if you like Halo 3 then go ahead and buy, and that goes for others that like series. All I have been saying is that Halo 3 looks like Halo 2 in HD and nothing seems special to me in this game that isn't in Halo 2. To me this game is Halo 2 on 360. But, I should judge it because I havent even played Halo 3. (I've judged it based on the videos I have seen of this game). It might be an amazing FPS games, so go ahead and get it.

by Apu - 2007-08-28 07:20
» Well

Im pretty sure if they made a mistake then someone, even a fanboy, would have fixed it by now.

by PS34ME - 2007-08-28 12:06
» And you don't buy it apu

all 5678jump is saying is that what you say applies to every sequel of a last gen game, and he's right, so your point isn't really a point at all, cause if halo 3 is just halo 2 on 360, then mgs4 is just just mgs3 on ps3, dmc4 is just dmc3 on ps3 and 360, gta4 is just gta3 on ps3 and 360.

by PS34ME - 2007-08-28 12:40
» *yawn*

"Im pretty sure if they made a mistake then someone, even a fanboy, would have fixed it by now."

This page was edited by someone on 27 August, or didn't you bother to check?

From wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haze_(video_game)

"The game is scheduled for release worldwide on November 19, 2007 for the PlayStation 3,[2] with the Xbox 360 and PC version following in 2008."

so if you've read it, which part of that sentence did you not understand?

but let's see how other websites describe the game;

http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId+3162242

(change plus character to equals in that link)

"First ever hands-on impressions with the (timed) exclusive PS3 shooter."

oh, so just 5 days ago, 1up still seem to think it's a timed exclusive only!

http://uk.gamespot.com/ps3/action/haze/index.html

hmmm, gamespot still seem to have it listed for PC and 360 as well, and you'll notice the headline of Haze being PS3-only for '07, i.e. timed-exclusive.

what about IGN i here you cry, well let's see;

http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/803/803222p1.html

"IGN: Is it a permanent exclusive or will it be timed, ala Oblivion?

Key: Haze will only be found on PS3 this holiday season, and will remain exclusive through the first quarter of the calendar year."

if the other versions had been cancelled, then the answer would simply be "Yes, it's a permanent PS3 exclusive". instead we get an answer of how LONG it's going to be a ps3 exclusive, which means it's obviously a timed exclusive until the end of the 1st quarter of 2008 (as stated on wiki).

there's much more, all confirming the same thing, but I'm sure you can find it for yourself.
