Slim PS3? - Image 1About every gaming news site went hot yesterday after what appeared to be leaked photos of a "PS3 Slim" spread all over the net. IGN got in touch with a US GameStop merchandising rep, and now they have more info regarding the new PS3.

So says IGN:

Today, we received word that a trustworthy US GameStop employee discussed the matter with a Sony merchandizing representative. When the leaked photos were brought up in private conversation, the merchandizing representative was immediately surprised that the photos were "released already," but then hastily dismissed the subject when the rep realized that it was regarding a rumor.

Well, the photos weren't "released," but judging from his reaction, they have something to hide. So yesterday's PS3 Slim pics might be closer to the truth after all.

IDK WHT THE PROB IS

it looks pretty sweet to me, i mean the original ps3 looks sexy as hell. u cant compare it to the crappy plastic 360 or wii. this new ps3 looks slick, like a machine 4rom the future, cuz thats wht ps3 is...the future

hmm

If It dosent do anything significantly better than my launch 60gb I will not buy, I doubt it would have BC anyway. Pretty pointless imo at the time being, maybe a year or 2 later but why now?

it's all good

I'm all for a PS3 slim. For some reason whenever some company has a hardware redesign, people flock to it. It doesn't always sell millions right away, but it grabs attention in a hurry. Regardless of the new features that this new model may or may not have, I still prefer my power guzzling, backward compatible, memory card slot, and 4 USB port having behemoth.

...

Gamestop rep =/= Sony confirmation.

by PS2GT - 2009-05-15 15:44:24
LOL

how is gamestop is trusty bussiness??? slimed consoles suck balls, psONE sucked, slim ps2s also suck and come with more problems, my 2 fat ps2s have less problems and have outlasted all my friends slims. im sorry but those pics look like *****, now a redesigned ps3 sounds better as no retail ps3 use that extra space where the card readers should so a real slim ps3 should be the size of a fat ps2. they should keep the current design but have it like smaller. it would still suck tho, as if it aint broke why fix it.

U got a point

but these ps3s arent made for people who already got a ps3. im thinking ps3 slim will have a lower price and will appeal more to the whiners that wont stfu about how expensive the original model is and how BC is useless. i would never give my original 60g ps3 (which has 320g now) for a slim, but if it has a lower price, then i think the console war will be over sooner than expected. I mean...Did u see the uncharted video? holy *****!!!!!

by Link75e - 2009-05-15 16:47:37
agree

yea this is for the people that complain about price so much. Im pretty sure their still going to complain cause its gonna have less stuff but you know what "you get what you pay for"

by GUNBEHINDTHESUN - 2009-05-15 19:02:29
AMEN!

As do I!

by Shatterdome - 2009-05-15 19:19:17
obviously...

it primarily for the people who have not bought a PS3 yet...

Hm

Trustworthy Gamestop employee = oxymoron. But that actually sounds like a plausible story. Stores do get info on systems a few months before they're launched because they're supposed to "prep/train" the employees. Sony is just keeping quiet so they can officially announce the system at E3 but behind the scene's the systems are being built and prepped for launch and will probably be out this year. And yea, this one is for those who don't have a PS3 yet mostly. Sony really needs to throw in that price cut, I bought my PS3 80gb MGS bundle when it came out but I still don't think the price is justified. A cut will be just what they need to pull ahead of MS this cycle.

hope this leads to a price cut since not much crap (not literally) inside the PS3...hope it has BC

...

I agree with you, but you didn't have to cuss so much. -.- I have a fat PS2 and I think it looks waay better then the slim. I'm glad I bought my PS3 already, because I wouldn't want a slim PS3. >.< (November 26, 2008. Never forget!) xP

Truth be told

I could have gotten a PS3, when it first came out but then when I looked at my PS2 Slim, I thought my god its like both slim and perfect at the same time because it actually played my games rather perfectly unlike my horrible launch PS2. Launch PS2 stopped working after 2 years with games, sent it to Sony, Sony fixed it, after 1 year, it started doing it again, man I really hated my launch PS2 giving me that annoying red screen. When I got my first PS2 Slim, it was perfect and it still works but this time, I make sure to protect it very well but I remember launch consoles suck. Sad truth is Nintendo never had this problem, thats what I find really strange, Gamecube, Wii. Anyway when I saw the PS3 I thought nah Ill wait for Slim, might as well wait for them to get all the kinks and whistles out of it like they did with PS2 because I would rather have a system that works rather than a power house brick AKA Xbox 3stinky. Usually in my eyes, slimmer PS3, usually means they've fixed alot of the horrible problems and by the way about the PS2 BC, they could always do what Microsoft does. DLC BC, thats what I heard Sony was intending to do after they took the emotion chip out. Ive been waiting for a Slim PS3 for too long.

BIG problems here

The opening paragraph says ''IGN got in touch with a US GameStop merchandising rep'' 3 problems with that 1) IGN didn't get in touch with anyone, the IGN quote says ''Today, we received word that a trustworthy US GameStop employee discussed the matter with a Sony merchandizing representative.'' So an anonymous told IGN that a gamestop employee spoke to a sony rep. 2) There was no gamestop merch rep involved at all, it says that a gamestop EMPLOYEE spoke to a SONY MERCH REP. 3) IGN's source of the sony/gamestop talk/confirmation is undisclosed in the article, just 'received word'...doesn't say from who. This 'word' is just as 'reliable' as the original Ps3 sllim shots. Just thought I'd mention.
