GameStop: expect PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 price cuts |
Ó

Video game retailer GameStop revealed that it expects a US$ 50 price cut for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 later this year.
Last July, Sony's Chief Financial Officer said that they had no plans for reducing the price of the console. Which is true - they won't be introducing a price cut, but they will be introducing higher-capacity models to replace the current ones.
SCEA revealed that the 40 GB model will be replaced with an 80 GB one this September, selling for US$ 399. A 160 GB bundle will be arriving in November with a pricetag of US$ 499.99. With that in mind, it may be too much to hope for another price cut later this year, but GameStop may know something we don't.
A RadioShack flyer that revealed the Xbox 360 price cut will happen on the week of September 7. These are the prices that the flyer stated:
- Xbox 360 Arcade (No Hard Drive): $199, down from $279
- Xbox 360 Pro (60GB HDD): $299, down from $350
- Xbox 360 Elite (120GB HDD): $399, down from $449

Maybe they will sell the older models of the PS3 by 50 bucks? I don't think that counts as a price-cut.
It is insane how much of a POS the XBOX 360 is! I'm glad they are lowering the price so they can rip off more people. I have two 360's and they have both died recently, i'm going to get them reflowed and then i'm going to sell them to try to recover some of the money i wasted by getting them in the first place!
They don't allow homebrew, or linux or hardware improvements like a reasonable priced Hard Drive! $179.00 for 120 gigs is ridiculous! especially since it's just a notebook drive in their fancy little case! I've been a diehard fan of microsoft for a long time but when they skimp on such basic things like proper cooling, that is wrong and i have to jump ship...PS3 here i come! at least i'll actually get some next gen technology (blue ray) (cell processing) (six axis) it's expensive but at least it won't break down right out of the box! It just pisses me off that the man who literally changed the world and has more money than god is content with releasing a obviously inferior product that's more of a hardware update than anything. at least sony calls the release of psp after psp a hardware update and not a psp2 or psp3! The XBOX 360 is certainly doomed to failure, i like xbox live though, however sony will figure theirs out and it'll be much better i'm sure. not to mention you can play your friends online for free!
Bill Gates retired a long time ago, even before his official retirement date. In fact, he wasn't very happy about many things his company did, not just the Xbox.
i'm glad that someone else sees it the way i do. bill gates was not the evil person many people make him out to be. he may not have had much say in the direction or development of the xbox. bill gates may not have had as much power as most people liked to think.
As much as I dislike microsoft, its not all Bill Gates fault. Its not like he is the only employee in power, there are presidents, VP's, Supervisors and so on. He can't watch everyone's back to make sure everything is done perfectly. I give props to Bill for donating money to need people in Africa and other third world countries. He does have a caring heart which can't be said for all rich people.
It is a hundred dollars more for just 60gb more memory and a black color.

And that's the problem, you come across as a one time MS fanboy to me with that statement and your pointless rant about the 360, and therefore being a fanboy you relate to consoles and their companies in a love/hate manner.
I've seen this so often over the years when a fanboy decides to switch sides, suddenly all the hatred they used to direct towards the competition is now directed towards the console/company they once supported blindly, where and the old enemy console/company is now greeted with open arms and lots of love. So the old loved console is hated, the old hated console is now loved.
It would make a change if a gamer can express his/her disappointed with a console without such pointless and I have to say rather childish rants. :|
--- you could be a Sony fanboy lying about owning two 360. ;)
I could have been a fanboy if i had EVER posted anything even remotely close to this before. Brand bashing is stupid, IF the 360 worked properly then i'd have no reason to ***** about it. what is bullsh*t is the fact that i spent over $550 back in 06 on my first 360 with a extra controller and a pair of rechargeable packs for the things. so the next year i bought my son his own 360 premium - another $400.00 down the ******er. It is well known that the 360 has issues that should've been addressed BEFORE LAUNCH! And yes in general bill is a awesome guy. However when a major product comes from your company and you don't make sure it'll last more than 3 months, that is crap! look around the net - thousands upon thousands of people are losing their couple hundred dollar investments over "keeping production costs down" That is why i'm jumping ship. I have a Gaming PC, a PSP PHAT, a PSONE, a PS2, a Wii, and Three DS's in my house and i'm a fanboy?
F**K YOU!
(AND LET'S NOT FORGET TWO BROKEN XBOX 360's)
The point is such a huge corporation with unlimited resources released a expensive product that they knew was half-assed and it didn't matter as long as they beat sony and nintendo with a release date and kept their costs down.
$50 for just a color change ;)
So $100 with more hd is not that bad after all.
$199 USD for arcade is fair price given that it is a 3rd gen or later board.
As a matter of fact once the 80G is down to 399 I'll get one.
Still gonna get my PS3 next spring getting my LCD/desk and xmas shopping to do first lol :)

I always find it amusing how people like yourself always like to talk tough online because you can hide behind your anonymity. I expect you do it to make up for your lack of a backbone in your everyday life (i.e. an opportunity for the weak to pretend they are strong).
You mention all the systems you own, and you've made a few comments here on QJ before (mostly the PSP section), and you even referred to the controller for the "XBOX 1" in one of your previous posts, but I don't believe you've ever posted anything in the 360 section, mentioned owning a 360 or even referred to the 360 before now. And now you claim to suddenly have TWO dead 360s? Yeah sure!
You may have owned an XBox last gen (hence the controlller reference), but as far as your claims about the 360, I do believe you are lying.
And the last time I checked, there was a three year warranty on all 360s because of the known problems with the console. So tell me, why have you chosen to ignore the warranty for the broken 360s you CLAIM to own?
So to summarize, I don't believe you own a 360, much less two, and therefore you are lying, and hence you ARE a fanboy (despite your claims).
Deny it all you want kid (sure you may be an adult, but you rant and argue like a child :)).
I wrote "but I don't believe you've ever posted anything in the 360 section"
I'm speaking, of course, to topics which are exclusive to the 360 section.
Still, I look forward to the reasons you chose to 'waste' your money on 2 360s rather than have them repaired under the warranty, and why you've never discussed owning a 360 or having problems with it (them) before. ;)
No need for the cursing and personal attacks guys. Breath, relax, and try to enjoy yourselves (believe me, it is possible, no matter how much you disagree :-)).
That said (and I know you're not going to like this Silwon) but Jez does have a point in that your claims and attacks are rather suspicious.
I've seen numerous posts like yours in the past from gamers who were not being entirely truthful, in order to launch a free attack on another console, or company or both.
Any you shouldn't get that angry because someone doesn't believe you, since the nature of these forums means that anyone can claim anything, whether it's the truth or not.
But I digress a little, what also made me think Jez has a point was the issue over the 360 warranty. I can understand someone getting angry over losing money because their console died (or two) and they can do nothing about it. But when there's a warranty which means you *can* do something about it, and yet from your post it's clear that you haven't, then I can't understand why (and if there is a reason, why this wasn't in your 'rant').
Am I missing something here?
If i could upload a photo of my 360's i would, why i have to prove it is beyond me? anyway i updated the firmware on my 360's so no i can't send them in.
I wanted to play my kid and didn't think i should have to buy the same game twice to play with my son on two screens. so feel free to rip me a new one about that, i'm sure you will. I never posted in the 360 forum because iv'e never had the interest to untill now, the 360 scene is pretty boring. I think you are the fanboy here, am i wrong? and if you want to i'd gladly meet you anytime and beat your a*s for talkin' like a bit*h!
You'll have to come out to ND for that however, tough guy!
BTW my name is Don Wilson come look me up.
anonymity my as*!
I hate when i'm called a liar.
As for my proof:

You wrote: "...anyway i updated the firmware on my 360's so no i can't send them in."
Then one word to you....GOOD!
You lost money due to your OWN stupidity! Live with it.
No really, YOU modified your 360s KNOWING that it will void the warranty, knowing that you can't send it back if it dies, knowing that you'll lose money as a result, and all because you were too cheap to buy another copy of the game, and now you're complaining because they died? Yeah sure, it's all MS's fault. *rolleyes*
Sorry but it serves you right. I have zero respect or sympathy for people like you who cry and moan when they suffer the results of their own stupidity.
You wrote: "and if you want to i'd gladly meet you anytime and beat your a*s for talkin' like a bit*h! You'll have to come out to ND for that however, tough guy!"
To repeat my earlier comment "I always find it amusing how people like yourself always like to talk tough online because you can hide behind your anonymity. I expect you do it to make up for your lack of a backbone in your everyday life (i.e. an opportunity for the weak to pretend they are strong)".
Thanks for proving my point.
You wrote "BTW my name is Don Wilson come look me up. anonymity my as*!".
Sure, and I'm Jacky Chan. And even if your name is Don Wilson, there are many Don Wilsons in the world, and many in the city/town you live in. And even if you give ALL your details away, together with proof, you know full well nothing is likely to come of it. So do continue to demonstrate more of your childish mentality and cowardly behaviour.
Apparently all you want to do is talk trash, there are about 25,000 people in this town and only three people with that name in my state so yeah- come find me PU**Y!
and the failure of the 360 is not because i upgraded the firmware - you are an idiot!
i'm done with this. i have better things to do than argue with a obvious child fanboy POS.
I wanted to push to find out where you're coming from on this issue, and your previous post already answered the question.
I knew there was far more to your childish rant than you were letting on, I knew you were not just an unlucky 360 fan who became disallusioned with the console because of the warranty question. There had to be more to your attack on MS and the 360, and I was RIGHT.
The fanboy 'angle' was the perfect means to get to the truth, and it worked (geez that was SO easy), including a photo I see. So what's next silwon, a photo of your passport? Driving license? Work details? :P. Want to type out more immature threats? Go ahead, but you should be a better example to your son than that.
So next time you want to rant and rave, tell the WHOLE truth, don't act the innocent victim when it's clear you're the architect of your OWN PROBLEMS with the 360, and therefore deserve NO sympathy.
You wrote: "and the failure of the 360 is not because i upgraded the firmware - you are an idiot!"
And I NEVER said the failure was caused by the upgrade, I said your warranty was void BECAUSE of the upgrade, so stop trying to twist the argument.
You wrote: "i'm done with this. i have better things to do than argue with a obvious child fanboy POS."
Thanks for continuing to prove my point about your childish mentally. Like I said, you caused this problem for yourself.
It's time you grew up and accepted responsibility for your own mistakes instead of looking for someone else to blame.
Ok, well given the information posted here since my previous post, I have to concur with this statement from Jez;
'It's time you grew up and accepted responsibility for your own mistakes instead of looking for someone else to blame.'
Sorry Silwon, but whilst (unlike Jez) I do sympathise with you on having two dead 360s (one is bad enough), you did put yourself in that position by voiding your 3 year warranty. You took the risk and got bitten in the process, therefore you have to take the responsibility for your actions.
I agree that the 360 should never have been so problematic, but the reality is different, it is problematic, and MS covered it as best as they can with the extended 3 year warranty. You effectively threw that warranty away, so to be honest, your initial rant here against MS and the 360 is unjustified.
Anyway, you two can continue to argue if you want.
Have a good weekend guys. Bye.
I'm i the only one that looked at that picture? I'm sorry but if you go to this website you have to be 18 or younger. What are you like 40 years old with a kid on a gaming website *****ing like a 10 year old who uses the fake word noob a lot. I'm guessing im going to get a crap load of bull from you guys because i can guaranty that all the people on this website are above 20. I feel bad for the one's that have kids and still play video games. One last thing i dont care about grammar im not in school right now.
Was the three year warranty available back in 2006?
He said he bought his first 360 in 2006, bought another for his son in 2007, and modded the consoles so that he didn't have to buy a second copy of a game to play on both. So his first 360 must have died last year at the earliest (after buying the second one), or perhaps this year.
The 3 year extended warranty came into affect last year and covers ALL 360s, from launch machines to those bought today (except those 360s where the gamer deliberately voided the warranty, like silwon).
Unregistered gamer wrote: "Sorry Silwon, but whilst (unlike Jez) I do sympathise with you on having two dead 360s"
Actually, despite saying "GOOD" to him earlier, I do sympathize, it's just that I was a bit annoyed by his attitude and behaviour, and by the fact that he was acting like an innocent victim for something which was mostly his fault (modding the console to avoid buying a second copy of a game). We all know these problems with the 360 exist, so to void the warranty is taking a HUGE risk, and you should be big enough to accept the consequences if they happen.
Now if he had admitted that in the first place, then things would have been different here, but instead he ranted and raved at MS and the 360 in a way which didn't make sense to me given the warranty, saying he lost money and would have to sell them. I was thinking WTF?
So I knew this was either some Sony fanboy lying through his teeth, or perhaps a one-time MS fanboy who has switched sides, or some gamer not telling the whole story about what happened, or whatever. It just didn't make sense, but NOW we have the truth and silwon only has himself to blame.
You also wrote: "I agree that the 360 should never have been so problematic, but the reality is different, it is problematic, and MS covered it as best as they can with the extended 3 year warranty. I fully agree with that.
And you wrote: "Anyway, you two can continue to argue if you want."
Nah, I'm done now. I only wanted to get to the truth, and I succeeded.
So if you don't like the website, don't come here. And don't waste your time posting here. It's pretty simple.
I reacon I'm in a similar age group to silwon (judging by his photo), and I expect we're not the only ones here.
So since when is gaming (and visiting gaming websites) only for those who are 18 years old or younger? It's bad enough to have a media who often sees gaming as something just for kids and therefore can't understand games like GTA, but it's sad to see young gamers expressing similar points of view. :(
I've been gaming since Pong in the 70s, but I still live a normal live with a job and family like many others, and I enjoy gaming as much as anyone else.
That said, I do feel silwon has behaved in a manner below that of his actual age, and I'm surprised at how willing he was to reveal personal details about himself (name, state, photo), for which we are always warning kids online NOT to do (for obvious safety reasons). :|
Silwon acted well below his age by going through so much trouble *****ing about his defective consoles. Sorry Silwon there is no M$ employees that can help you on this site. Jez i would be scared though he did look tough in those pictures.
Turismo20 wrote: "Jez i would be scared though he did look tough in those pictures."
Except I reckon I'm much tougher (and I have good reasons to believe that), but I'm not foolish enough to post a picture of myself or give away such personal details online (I'm still surprised at how easy it was to get info from this guy!).
Besides, he has a very punchable face, but I wouldn't hit a guy with glasses. ;)
(And yeah, that last sentence was a joke guys :))
it sucks that ms didn't test the 360 properly before they launched it, all cause they were in a big rush to get it out before xmas 2005. if they did, your 360s would still be working now. if i had a 360 i would never mod it knowing there's a 33% chance of failing. so to mod both is just crazy. why mod both man? also i hate to say it but you can't say the 360 is doomed to failure because like it or not, it's already a big success, and still has more dev support than the ps3 and has a larger user base. even when the ps3 overtakes it finally, its still a success. but the other thing i have to say is, reading all the posts here, i do think jez played you like a fiddle man. he knew exactly what he was doing all along and you fell for his tactics. :-(
jez, your smart, i give you that lol, but maybe too smart for your own good? i jsut dont get why people like you spend so much time on forums. no disrespect.
last comment jst cracked me up...
