A few months before it starts wreaking havoc on the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Sony PlayStation 3,Grand Theft Auto IV details have already begun circulating throughout the gaming community. We already know quite a lot, but GamePro Germany has a little bit more to add. Check these out and see if any of these details ring a bell:1. Multiple animations when breaking into cars- Rather than the usual punch-and-throw animation, Rockstar says that there will be several more realistic scenes witnessed when Niko tries to hop aboard a vehicle he intends to steal. This includes breaking the window open with an elbow shot and looking to check for potential witnesses while he hotwires a car.
2. Less unrealistic gameplay bells and whistles- Developers say that unrealistic markers and arrows will be minimized and other in-game devices will be employed to give direction to players. Do we smell GPS here?
3. Every street will have a name- Developers are still deliberating on the prospect of whether or not they should give every street a name which will be displayed onscreen when you enter it. Another issue which we already know of is still undecided: Whether or not the city will be fully accessible from the beginning or not.
4. Xbox 360 vs PS3- Dan Houser of Rockstar says that the idea is to not have any hint of bias towards any of the platforms. He says there won't be any differences between the versions for each console.
5. Downloadable extras- Rockstar reveals that there will be some freebies, but there will be some things you have to pay for too.
We certainly like what we're hearing and from the looks of it, we may have a more realistic crime spree than ever. We've already seen the screens, so we know it'll look good. The only thing left to find out is that if Niko and his city stacks up to his older brothers from consoles past.

If that wear the case. But the fact remains that the 360 is holding the PS3 back because of cross platform development. First party games already show this.

skidz - You only show yourself to be a fanboy with that comment (and if you're going to make such comments, direct them at other fanboys, not ALL fans/users).
lolyounoob - Both consoles are similar in power. The time difference between the consoles is meaningless since it's mostly due to the PS3 delay (remember spring 2006?). So your comment is no different than a 360 fanboy saying that the new 6 month old console could ONLY match a console which was 1.5 years OLD! It goes both ways.

That's completely wrong.
As we saw last gen, the strongest format usually got the best version of multiformat games. Usually that format was the XBox, or if available, the PC.
The weaker formats HELD THEMSELVES BACK! In otherwords, it was the PS2 and GC which tended to have worse looking textures, worse framerate, less polygons, worse lighting etc, compared to the XBox version.
Was the XBox held back because of the PS2 and GC? NO! Was the PC version held back because of the weaker consoles? No! Yes they *may* have pushed the game further was an exclusive, but for multiformat games, the XBox and PC showed they were was more powerful.
The only time you see a bad example of one format effecting another is with quick ports. But a port is not the same a game being simultaneously developed for multiple formats.
So this idea that the 360 is holding the PS3 back is complete nonsense. The PS3 should be getting the best looking and best performing versions of multiformat games if it were as powerful as some gamers believe. However, if you believe the multiformat devs who say the two consoles are similar in terms of power, then the simularities between games on 360 and PS3 actually makes sense (unless you're in denial that is).

If you're saying the PS3 is being held back on the basis that the games are not exclusive to the PS3, then the same can be argued in favour of the 360, i.e. the PS3 is holding the 360 back because of cross platform developement.
Hence that's nothing new, that's just the way it is with multformat games. However, it's not always the case that exclusives are better than their multiformat counterparts. Exclusivity only offers the potential for devs to do more with the hardware. A challenge which not all devs can rise to.
I am so happy rockstar came out and set the story straight, looks like all those people that thought GTA 4 was going to be better on ps3 is rethinking now. LOL I am so happy. yeppie yeppitie yeh
I remember the GTA 3 filling up dvd9 on xbox, and people thought GTA 4 could not work on dvd9 what people dont realize is that xbox games never used compression, but xbox 360 games are using compression, go learn about it people, Microsoft is a SOFTWARE company duh, sony did not use compression for ps3 cause they did not have to they are using blu ray so they could make money off movies sales remember sony invented blu ray duh so why would they use dvd9. anyway compression + dvd9 = Just fine for next gen games, damn I am happy right now this news made my day.

That's right.
PS3 games are not being held back because of the 360, that's just one of a long line of excuses coming from those who refuse to admit that the 360 and PS3 are roughly equal in power. To put it another way, the PS3 is being held back by the 360 as much as the 360 is being held back by the PS3 for cross platform games!
If the PS3 version of a game is not as good as some hope, that's due mostly to game design, the talent and experience of the devs and the limitations of the hardware. It not because of the 360.
For example, before launch, SO many gamers here assumed that Blu-ray's capacity automatically meant higher resolution textures in PS3 games compared to the 360, when it didn't, because storage is only ONE part of a long process of getting graphics onto the screen. So when they see identical textures in
a 360/PS3 game today, they blame it on the 360, despite the fact that last gen the GC and PS2 usually had the worse textures whilst the XBox and PC usually had the best in cross platform games (of course, lazy ports are a different matter!).
It's true that cross platform development means some compromises have to be made, but that effects ALL the platforms involved, not just one.
So to summarise, compromises are going to effect the weakest console much more than they effect the strongest, resulting in a poorer version of the game on THAT machine. So it's no point blaming the 360 console for PS3 cross platform games that fall short of overly high expectations.

Rockstar are no strangers to compression themselves, check out Vice City Stories on the PSP's tiny 1.8GB UMDs, it's on Par with the PS2 version of Vice City!

As long as everyone knows that PS3 has the most advance set up. Ask any Geek (which i am) which system is the most advance and has the most processing power its going to be the PS3 no doubt manly because tech savvy Geeks don't buy into systems and just build computer. They have an un-bios decision. Go ahead i dare you to ask. haha go to Geek squad.
"Peter north" its not about which games are out know its about which games are going to come out. Need i remind you Sony will have the PS3 out for 10 years and no system will beat it in that ten years because it will have constant support unlike xbox360 which will be around for probably 5 more years, and if they try to stay with the ps3 they will loose because the ps3 is much more advanced like RickyREM said so in 5 years ps3 will still be top of the line but xbox360 wont and still have lots of games being produced then thats were the xbox360 fans come in buying ps3's because of the created infanstructure of the ps3 to be around another 4 years after that.
