Game Connect Asia Pacific: Drinking beer, making games |
Ó

Game Connect is basically the new name for the AGDC (Australian Game Developers Conference), an event that gives Australian game developers a really nice professional work related excuse to not go to the office, drink beer, rub shoulders, and go talk about the activity that gives them pleasure - making games.
A noteworthy presentation at the event was the one done by Zeno Colaca, Publisher and Developer Relations, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Nice name: Zeeeeennooooooo.
Anyway, Mr. Colaca presented a lecture entitled "What is the REAL Next-gen?" Unlike previous speeches made by other executives, Zeno doesn't talk about why PS3 is the real next-gen and why 360 is the fake one. Instead he covered what gamers and consumers both expected from the next-gen. He took time to note the differences in expectation between the two demographics.
When asking the crowd what the REAL next-gen was, much laughter ensued when the first shouted reply was "Nintendo!" Trying to sound professional, IGN shouted, "Online!", lucky for them it was included in one of the slides displaying gamer expectations.
Oh, before we forget, Sony is one of the platinum sponsors of the event. IGN claims that it was next to impossible to find a Microsoft rep in the area.
Other notables regarding the event includes the display of a clip of the open world game The Outsider.
