Gag order placed by Konami on MGS4 reviewers for tech info? - Image 1A report on MTV Multiplayer blog was recently posted, describing what restrictions Konami Digital Entertainment placed on reviews of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. As usual, plot elements had to be kept blanketed to avoid spoilers, but strangely enough, some technical details were also specified in the list.

Specifically, the length of the game's cut scenes and the install size of the game on the PlayStation 3 hard drive were allegedly embargoed. Reasons were not specified why, but MTV Multiplayer guesses that these may be things that may be viewed negatively by some.

That, at least, holds true for reviewers in the print media. Internet-based publications seem to be clear on that matter. Case in point is Eurogamer's recently-posted critique of MGS4 which has information for both things.

"You can't call it a cut-scene, it's an entire film in its own right," wrote Eurogamer in its review of MGS4 as they described the types of cut scenes in-engine, and the one that supplied the finale.

We guess it's going to take time for us all to know the truth behind Konami's supposed move. In the meantime, let's take our sweet time playing our games instead of worrying about something that's not even there yet.

OMG are these people serious? This are the things that piss me off about people. Look, I love Metal Gear. I love the series. The story is amazing and I can't help myself other than sit and watch some of the awesome cut-scenes. But here's a quick fix...Press the "X" button to skip and then there's your solution. Man, seriously. Get a brain.

Meh.

I think a 90 minute cutscene may actually be the FINAL one. I don't think Kojima would be stupid enough to break up the action with a cutscene that's an hour and 30 minutes long. That would be a horrible move, but MGS-fanboys wouldn't care, but others would. MGS4 is trying to appeal to both normal fans, new fans, and hardcore fans, so that move wouldn't make sense.

Especially in a game series where if you skip a 2 second cutscene or codec convo the entire story won't make sense from then on.

read the comment at the bottom

the autor says:"I’ve played through the other “MGS” games and enjoyed them. I look forward to playing more of “MGS4.” But even if I could say, first-hand, that KOJIMA'S NEWEST IS THE GRATEST GAME OF ALL TIME, I would still consider it notable to report that people working on the game were asking reviewers to omit technical details about the game from their reviews." ......That's enough for me!!

the...

the 90 minutes is ALTOGETHER.... the total amount of time the cut scenes will take is 90 minutes.... you're not gonna play a game and then watch a movie.... plus remember that MGS will have a feature were you can press a button during an event and it will show you a flashback of what that event is referencing...... Hence why blu-ray was not enough.... even for a 50g disc...

hmmm

I also think that 720p rumor is bs, why would they release 1080p trailers which are in engine cutscenes if the game runs 720p?

by NarooN - 2008-05-30 18:38
.

Deceptive Marketing?

by NarooN - 2008-05-30 18:40
.

Well if it's 90 minutes altogether, which it better be, then that's ok. The only reason why it peaked out at 50gb is because they decided to put the entirety of Metal Gear Online on the same disc. If it weren't for that, they'd still had space left.

by NarooN - 2008-05-30 21:38
if that's...

If that's true, then the game will be 45 minutes long.

In the IGN review, the reviewer said that half of the game's content was comprised of cutscenes, so if it's only 90 minutes total then this is a very short game.

Which it won't be, because there is a 90 minute cutscene in there somewhere. And like I said, it will most likely be the last cutscene. It would make sense. I also don't see how my last comment was negative, but that's mgs fanboys for you.

Oh man Cant believe this ppl

If you had played any MGS in PSX/2 then you know that's they are not 45 minute games so what makes you think that this one is? Also, in the 90 cut-scene topic - if you see it as something negative then dont play the game and dont even bother buying it- if you cannot press X to go forward and skip some important info in the story then dont buy the game. As you can see every other MGS game since NES and before you have to either read or watch part of the story so why are some people complaining that this game cut-scenes are too long ? Just dont buy the game - You gotta realize what you are planning to play next and if you dont attain yourself to watch some cut-scenes then just dont f**** g buy the game.

I don't give a *****

They could have a ten hour cut-scene and it would rule any other game coming for the rest of the year.
