FW 2.0 release notes fake? Sony denies FW update for PS3?

Strange. We're not really sure how to take this bit of info, but it seems as if yesterday's "Sneak Peek" of the PS3's FW 2.0 changelog was nothing but a rumor after all. Or is it? The news comes from EuroGamer, who says that Sony's been all hush-hush about the leaked notes that've been doing rounds over online forums and sites.

According to EuroGamer, Sony's only statement regarding this issue is that they're dismissing the leakage as "speculation." Details of this dismissal from Sony are sketchy, and it seems that only EuroGamer has reported on it. To what extent is the mysterious "FW2.0 changelog" debunked by Sony? If the release notes are just "speculation," then that means what exactly?

If there's anything good to come out of this (and if we take EuroGamer for their word on it), then there's but one thing positive about Sony's statement. They denied the changelog as speculation... But they didn't deny the fact that they're coming out with a firmware update. There's a bit of difference there. And as far as we're concerned, we're still going to have to play the Rumor card again.

Rumor of a rumor... Would you believe that?

if they were going to do one that big, they would use the press advantage. (just like the 1.6 update)

i personally think that someone put it together as real, based on what the psp can do and the ps3 will do in the future, as well as what fans want the console to do.(hence XMB in-game.)

either way, we'll see this thursday as that's when their scheduled to release an update based on the past few. (every 4th thursday)

Watch out for Sony's decietful words. I don't remember where, but Sony supposedly "denied" the release of a certain game when actually they just denied the game's pictures to be false.

Sony claims the 2.0 update to be "speculation" and that may be true because some of the update may be witheld till the next update just so they can say they are telling the truth. So technicually they aren't lying, but it doesn't mean that the update won't contain those upgrades.

Seems like all the little kids on both systems are posting in here. what a joke those kids are. say what you want but in the end the PS3 actually came out a bit too early. 08 would be a better release time. seeing that not alot of people have an HDTV. For all of those fanboys on any side... shut up. We will see in time which system is the better buy. nex-genwars.com is falsified. they count the number of SKU's sent to distributers. not the actual ammount sold in the store. (How do I know. I work overnight for (a company) and got to see the bakroom for electronics. what did I see? an entire rack of 360's sitting around while all the PS3's are sitting in the store windows. (Only 5 to be exact.)

Anyone who is biased of another system isn't a true gamer. TRUE gamers don't care what system the game comes out on. as long as they don't miss out on the action. for example last gen. no comparison vids were ever posted up until after the fight between which console has more power for the next generation of gaming.

We would like to clear all this speculation of a firmware update. The poster who posted on the official U.S. PlayStation board has recently told us that her account has in fact been hijacked. Her post about the firmware 2.0 update is all made-up.

I am now fully aware of the circumstances pertaining to something the was posted by my account (Leah). Fact is, I have been in the dark about what's been going on until today and it has had me worried.

Maybe I'm a bit naive, but something should have clicked when I had trouble logging on this afternoon. I never had the oppertunity to post such information, as I wasn't anywhere near my computer to do such a thing (Mother's Day).

To put an end to the now titled "Conspiracy", I would like to state that I'm souly and completely sorry for whatever this may have caused. The update may have these features and it may not. I'm really expecting nothing becuase you just don't know what to expect from Sony. I love all kinds of their games and the PS3, but let's face it. Many things they've told us aren't true. I just take 'em when they come. I'm not saying they're bad I'm just saying they lie sometimes.

BlackDraGoN makes a decent reference: why call 360 "Xbox" (DirectX?). The original had the "X" in the molding of the body. They should have called it "HourglassBox". I'm still trying to remember what ridiculous reason they called it "360" for (was it 'The complete 360 experience'?). Silly name. But, the funniest part is perhaps the 'PS3-envy' of the Elite 360, which suddenly promotes black as the prime color, even though every other stinking peripheral for it was based on White. I digress. BlackDraGoN is also right that the PS3 has more built-in features than 360 (I have both). 360 doesn't have a full web browser, you can't fit it with any serial ATA hard drive (only un-Godly-overpriced ones), you can't rip CD's to it, you can't play HD movies on it with a pure HDMI interface (the USB connection for the HD-DVD drive will certainly prove a technical failure for encryption/decryption a few years out), you can't play SACD's on it, you don't have built-in wiFi, you don't have a built-in card reader, you don't have ... ok enough already. I have to stop sometime. (By the way, for those who don't know, YES the PS3 has ALL of the above, built-in.)
