Folding@Home to get new features: Auto Shutdown and Background Music - Image 1 Folding@Home to get new features: Auto Shutdown and Background Music - Image 2

It looks like everyone's favorite distributed computing system will be getting an upgrade of sorts. Sony's Official PlayStation Blog has announced two new features that'll be made available to the PS3 version of  Folding@Home in an upcoming update: an automatic shutdown option and an option for background music play.

First off, the automatic shutdown option allows users to set a timer which will turn off your PS3 after a set amount of time. This should save you a bunch of kilowatt hours and a lot of electricity, especially if you're the type who actually leaves the PS3 on while sleeping.

Second is the background music player. This new feature will allow users to play the songs they've stored on their hard disk drive.

For more on these worthwhile additions to the PS3's Folding@Home project, feel free to check out our source link for instructions on using the two new features.

» damn O_O

a lot of things are getting the music option. Superstar dust, F@H, the bowling game thing, and Home will have it with its release.

» yup. It's out now.

The music can only be random and you can't skip songs, so every now and then I have to listen to one of the Fall Out Boy songs that my little sister put on my PS3... ugh... Anyways, I've always thought that a small easy update to folding@home would be that they could make my yellow dot on the map a different color, and all of my friends could be another color as well. For example, make me a green dot and all of my friends idk... orange. For me personally it would be kinda cluttered because I only have PSN friends that I actually know in real life, but for some people it might look alright.

You can skip tracks by holding X and then pressing either left or right..

There is some slowdown when listening to music, by an hour or so

( Wow big woop ), other than that. Great stuff.
