There's no doubt that a lot of anticipation surrounds every James Bond game after Rare set the gold standard for FPS titles more than a decade ago with GoldenEye 007. Activision now has the honor and burden of living up to that legacy with its upcoming 007 Quantum of Solace.
The publisher and the game's developers have remained relatively mum on details for Quantum of Solace, but GameMaster Magazine has other plans. For its 200th issue, it treated fans to the first details on the shooter to come.
We've already established that 007 Quantum of Solace will be a first-person shooter. What we didn't know until now is that the game will have plenty of third-person elements and other trendy gameplay mechanics.
The magazine says that the game's cover mechanic will affect the perspective of the player whenever used. That means when Bond has his back to the wall, the camera will switch to third person and pan out a bit to give a fuller view on the surroundings.
Third-person mode will also kick in when Bond climbs ladders and walks along narrow ledges. Quick-time events are also said to be incorporated to add to the challenge in these situations.
The decision to add more third-person elements is likely caused by the desire of the devs to constantly make the player feel that he is Bond. Game designers usually talk about how much more character a third-person perspective gives to a protagonist. Besides, what's the use of being in such a nice suit if you can't show it off?
As for the AI, GameMaster says enemies move in coordinated fashion and use flanking tactics to get the better of the world-famous secret agent. Every good shooting game has this kind of AI, so Bond's title should have something to that level, too.
We'll give you more 007 Quantum of Solace updates as new word hits the streets. You may also want to check out the newly-opened teaser site for more on this game.

If Activision takes it in the right direction, we could have yet another great shooter game.
