First Dante's Inferno gameplay details |
Ó

In a nutshell, PSM3 describes Dante's Inferno as "God of War meets Dead Space", with a bit of Devil May Cry thrown in for good measure. It follows Dante (Divine Comedy Dante, not DMC Dante) as he literally goes through Hell in pursuit of his beloved Beatrice.
Along the way, he meets and kills a lot of Hell's denizens. Following standard game conventions, these enemies just happen to carry health and magic orbs which they drop when they die.
The game's control scheme is identical button-for-button to God of War's. The right stick is used to evade, while regular and heavy attacks are mapped to the Square and Triangle buttons respectively.
Alternating between the light and heavy attack buttons lead to easy-to-string combos. Holding R1 and pressing Square also allows players to knock opponents into the air for some DMC-style juggling. For better or worse, quick time events also show up in Dante's Inferno.
Despite all the God of War similarities, PSM3 says that Dante's Inferno's setting really sets it apart from Kratos' own hack-'em-and-slash-'em romp:
Dante's trip through hell is altogether more unpleasant, twisted creatures burst from doorways, lava spews from inverted crosses and bottomless fiery pits yawn deep beneath your feet.
Publisher Electronic Arts and developer AEA Redwood Shores are targeting a 2009 release for Dante's Inferno. The game's set to come out on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
