Finally! PS3 prices drop...in India |
Ó
So there I was, reading my source, hardly believing my eyes when I saw the "Sony PlayStation 3 prices dropped" title. With Christmas and everything, it might be true. Then boom, I find out it's only for India. As it turns out, Sony's giving a special holiday treat to gamers in India, giving them a reason to start celebrating Christmas.
This Christmas, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that the 40GB PS3 price in India dropped from INR 24,990 (about US$ 520) to INR 22,990 (about US$ 480) plus a game to sweeten the deal. Yikes, they have it bad over there - for that kind of money, you can get a 160GB PS3 bundle! It's a spanking good thing that they're getting a price drop over there.
Atindriya Bose of Sony Computer Entertainment expressed his excitement for the offer:
We are excited to bring to Indian consumer offers like these during the Christmas. This not only gives a boost to gaming in India but also make the PlayStation 3 more affordable than ever. We recognise the need of the Indian gamers and stand committed to develop gaming as the most interactive entertainment mode. While we continue to innovate and design ground-breaking new products, we remain dedicated to our long-term vision for the PlayStation 3 platform.

A price drop in ummmm India. Whoo hooo!
so we Americans are going over to India and getting ourselves a PS3! lol
no wonder there arent that many gamers in india. The console is like twice as expensive!
Which begs the question, I thought Sony were losing money on every PS3 made/sold?
If they are losing money it isn't as much as before because hardware prices have fallen since the PS3's launch (Blu-ray drive, cell processor, lack of emotion engine, missing card readers, 2 less usb ports, etc.)
Does anybody know how much it cost Sony to produce a PS3 at this point and time? Last I remember they were losing a little over $200, but that was like two year ago and I haven't payed attention since.
