Final Fantasy XIV Online details: monsters and races, combat and leveling system, more |
Ó
On the monsters and races, Hiromichi noted that while there are several similarities with those in FFXI, the ones in XIV are vastly improved, especially with the graphics, particularly because they used a new engine. Even the classes have similarities with XI, but the main difference is that you can enjoy full character creation, thanks to the available and wide range of customization options.
As for the combat system, he notes that the one in XIV is not so much a job based system, but is more of an Armoury system. Depending therefore on the weapons you use, you can switch with your class. you are also allowed to use different ability or skills, as well as join a party (though not necessarily requiring you to play solo, although that option is available as well).
That Armoury system mentioned above is also important because this is where the leveling system is also based upon.
This time it really depends on the Armoury system. It’s going to depend on how much you use your own equipment and weapons. The more you use it, the more the skill will go up of your class, so that’s the way you will get to higher levels for the class – the skills. You’ll also get abilities. It’s not going to be like if you fight more monsters, you’ll get more level ups, like similar to the experience system. Of course, if you fight against monsters, you will get some skill points, but it will help more if you attend to Guildleves. So that will be a more efficient way to hone your skills and ‘level up’ your character.
And as they revealed at E3, they are targeting a 2010 release date, so if all works out, then we might see something in the form of a beta come Spring 2010. "We are trying to work as soon as possible, so as soon as preparation is done, there could be something earlier than 2010."
