Final Fantasy XIII's Crystal Tools engine demoed with Pigtailed Girl |
Listed in: PS3, Xbox 360 Tags: Japan, Square Enix, Yoichi Wada
Ó
TV Tokyo had an interview with Square Enix's boss about the upcoming game on the PS3 and Xbox 360. And what's cool is that Wada gave viewers a peek into their Crystal Tools engine and showed a model of Pigtailed Girl - y'know, the same girl who summoned Carbuncle in that E3 trailer.
The screens below show lighting effects and a zoom-in on the girl's eye (glad to see it doesn't look "flat"). For the sake of comparison... check out this screen from Heavy Rain.
It might not look much to some of you (remember, these are just developmental renders), but at least we get to see that they're hard at work with their engine. Just the other day, Sony's Yoshida commented that video game technology in Japan was starting to lag. No doubt about it: Square Enix seems to be an exception there.
Anyways, as an aside... I couldn't help but compare the zoom-in of Pigtailed Girl's eye to that of Heavy Rain chick's zoom in. Click here for comparison. Of course, saying that one is better than the other is a moot argument. They're apples and oranges and Heavy Rain is definitely taking a different direction in art than FF13.

are you serious
If I owned a PS3 and was waiting specifically for this game my sub-consious would probably have squeenix forever.
well, not saying that the graphics have much to do about the quality of the game--just that the first ever In-Game screenshot looks 'so' bad...

Just like how I can say DNA sequences - combinations of Gs, As, Ts, and Cs - can look "cute" if arranged in a certain way in a human being. ^_^
So yeah, Cactuar Knight's saying that Pigtailed Girl is cute (i.e. a sequence of 1s and 0s) is still within reason.
Star up for both of ya!

but then again, ff has a lot more to work on, like terrain, magic, and summons. no one's really going to appreciate that the eyes are as detailed as heavy rain's if they're looking at shiva turn into a motorcycle

But as an aside, I think there's a huge disparity between the look of the cinematics and real-time. I'm just a little under-whelmed

The Japanese at the bottom says Lost Odyssey
and I mean I would 'hate' squeenix forever...
The In-Game screens from here are so terrible,

As for the screens, those aren't ingame-screens, it is just a little demo of a part of the engine they are using to create this game.
This is no representation for the final game.
You fail at Japanese and at the comprehension of this simple fact. Are we, perhaps, a fanboy ?
You can't go comparing the graphics of the completed game Losy Odyssey with a tech demo of the engine being used for FF13.

Random failing of Japanese input, non-working 'remember me' function, randomly refusing to work image script...
Please guys, fix this. And while you are at it, update the login script so that it redirects to page you were previously viewing and not the main page ;)
this would help, a lot.
As for the Japanese, just look up the game on Wikipedia, copy the name written over here into google and see the hits for that and then do the same with Izuna's ;)
