Square Enix continues to live up to the standards it set when it released Final Fantasy VII for the PSOne. According to a new interview with Final Fantasy XIII's producers, the game will utilize 100% of the PlayStation 3's power. Here's an excerpt from the interview with Dengeki PS3:
Interviewer: How much of the PS3's powers do you think the game will utilize at the end?
Kitase: I think around 50% for the demo version. For the final product (just before it's released), I think it will use around 100% of its powers. It is the same situation with FFVII and FFX where we fully utilized the powers of the PS1 and PS2.
Interviewer: Since the PS3 has Bluray, there shouldn't be too much trouble with storage?
Kitase: If you are talking about using a single or dual layer disc, there isn't really a problem with storage space. However, the PS3 also has a hard drive. Depends on which one you are talking about, but there's still some work to be done on the memory side of things.
Even Killzone 2 wasn't able to max out the PS3. I'm stoked to get my hands on that demo. Not exactly sure how the Xbox 360 version will play in this case though.

I don't see how FFVII uses the PS1 to it's fullest though. I always thought it was a massively ugly game with simplistic low-poly kiddy looking character models and they all merged into the lead one everytime you went somewhere. FFVIII and IX surely looked better as did a whole load of other PS1 games.

it just means its a power hungry game, when you run Folding@home that uses 100% of the ps3's power
its all about coding, you can code a program to do one simple task but use all of the resources available to do it
im not saying that FF13 wont look amazing, but what i am saying is its not the best the ps3 can do, in a few years you will see when all games improve just how the games on the PS2 did

I'm sure the 360 version will be maxed out too. They're not porting FFXIII, they're actually restructuring and rebuilding it from the ground for the 360 so it'll take full advantage of the 360. I've got a 360 and a Wii (used to own a PS3 'til it got stolen...) but I know for sure I'm getting FFXIII for PS3... I think it would be weird to play it on 360... But I'm glad it's multiplatform, so Square can make more money and hopefully stop making crappy games and remakes!

They are talking about fully understanding the engine. The problem is developers all use their own 100% scale. I think for kill zone 2, they are only using 80% of the processing potential of the CPU, but they are maximizing all aspects of the PS3 as far as development.

Either that or its using the 100% in order to maximize processor effeciency, not because it really needs to. I can just see the white Square-Enix logo at the begining pushing the PS3 to its limit because thats what it was designed to do.
Probably not going to be the case, but i can imagine the final ultimate boss, huge as a small city, complete with 1000 live rendered cars maxing the PS3, then something blowing up and suddenly it's only showing every other frame. (yes, I'm a jaded gamer)
Meh, what am I talking about. The fact is, that it's a boast. They may get 100%, but a year from now developers will have gotten to 150% power, which today seems impossible. Luckily, there is always a developer willing to push the envelope.

They are just bending words in press releases and interviews to try and convince both PS and Xbox owners that they are getting the "best" game, trying to capitalize upon fanboy fap fights that comments like this start. Its all crap.

but still this is not utterly useless since the data obtained from running these programs can help in obtaining a better configuration in their codes for creating better games. hopefully will be used in creating ffvsxiii and kh3 and new releases of SE games...

Let's also not forget FF6 on the SNES. While it was mainly 2d, the entire world was also done in mode 7 on a chocobo or airship, as well as the opening scene with the Magitek Armor, Serpent Trench, and the ending all being mode 7, and then the last part of the Magitek Factory being extremely low quality 3d.
FF7 didn't even utilize the full limitations of the hardware either. FF7 utilized polygons for the characters,

Both FF8 and FF9 utilized untapped features that FF7 never did. Not that they couldn't have when FF7 was there, but just never did.
