Final Fantasy XIII - Image 1Potential bad news for Final Fantasy fans: during Square-Enix's fiscal meeting, it was revealed that the development of the White Engine, Square-Enix's new in-house gaming engine, is currently moving at a very slow pace.

Taking into account that Final Fantasy XIII will be running on the White Engine, it looks like the game's release could possibly be delayed to a date well past Amazon's November 2008 pre-order date.

Square-Enix did not specify any dates or even an estimated period for Final Fantasy XIII's release, so all we can do now is twiddle our thumbs patiently and wait. More updates to come.

UPDATE: Development of White Engine not stagnant

FFXIII.net is reporting that the recent news of White Engine's slow development  may have been a mistranslation.

According to their report,

In the report on the fiscal meeting by impress.co.jp they speak of recent earnings from, and sales of, recent Square Enix games and only mention the white engine momentarily in the report. There is no further word on Final Fantasy XIII or development of the engine outside stating that development is NOT stagnant.

Looks like Final Fantasy fans have nothing to worry about then. Barring any unforseen problems in the future, it looks as if there are sunny skies ahead for the development of Final Fantasy XIII.

to be expected

Every PS3 game gets delayed. That is, every quality game they don't want to rush out the door. I'm sure it will be worth it.

MCS

Hey MCS, I replied to one of your posts in another article (the Amazon voting one). Just noting in that that the graphics in Uncharted were the best I have seen so far on any console. What do you think?

by platon - 2007-11-19 13:41:23
Dah

Did you ever see a final fantasy not getting delayed? no. lol Anyway, there is much good games popping that I don't care right now. It's not gonna pop before 2k9 I'd say, FF12 last year. @Mister Common Sense: You're not making any sense. The ps3 hav almost all it's titles coming at the right date, there is only few titles, that are generally coming to the x360 also, that are getting delayed (BIG projects, like GTA4, assassin's creed, etc). While a lot of games are done at the right time, like uncharted. I mean, ratchet and clank popped 2 weeks before the official release date! lol. It's not the ps3 who have delays, but the games, always remember that and we should see less flame starter.

Well, they can delay it as long as they want for all I care. I know that SE will deliver a topnotch game in the end so I don't really mind the delays and extended waiting periods.

Square-Enix Delayed!?

Of course there are going to be delays, it's SQ. But just look at their other games, none can compare, so is it worth the wait? yup

...

Since MCS got a ps3 he has'nt been trolling much at all.. he resent commend was not a troll .. but I think people still rememmber the troll of the past and misintepret what he is saying.. he said that QUALITY games tend to be delayd for the ps3, and that happens all the time... and it's a good thing.. he said that "I'm sure it will be worth it", how is that a troll comment.. oh well.. off topic

Gee we would have never guessed this

Ofcourse its going to be delayed qj, why didi it take this bit of information to tell you that? I wonder why square is bothering with the white engine anyway? They're just gonna switch to the unreal engine after this game anyway.

by Eclipze_ - 2007-11-20 03:39:19
No...

Cause that engine only looks good for certain types of games. If anything, the people at Enix will use there own engine. (cause if you look at the unreal engine type games they all look kinda the same in a way.)

see, it was wrong

QJ...just update the article title and quit giving people the wrong idea. I love how blogs can get it wrong and just leave the info up. Actual news makes a retraction, you should do the same. FF is on time people. Thank you.

Wow

I must say your statement is so true. Your truly have turned a new leaf. Well Done. ^^Thinker Don't know about MCS but the graphics are stellar so far. Don't know if i would go on to say the best on any console Mass Effect on the 360 is looking just as good as Uncharted.

by Stealth! - 2007-11-20 07:22:27
I agree

I read the post but i understood what he meant, its just people quickly skim and don't read it before posting. A mistake yes, but hey we all do sometimes. Quality games do tend to take time, thats cause devs try to utilized the console and make sure its in tip top shape. Devs like SE want to make the best game possible so things on there end does get delayed. The release date normally isn't official anyway its just a deadline they try to meet, its not always official and is subject to change if something happens like bugs and can't be released. You should be glad there taking the time to fix it first before releasing instead of giving us a poor working title. Its bad enough reviewers are harsh as it is on the PS3 having those problems is just asking for more problems. But the games they give harshly really isn't true, They try to skim or rush through the game to meet a deadline which should never happen anyway.

Website

The site is FF-XIII.net just so you know, not FFXIII.net (there is no site at all at that address atm).

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-11-20 07:48:02
why can't I reply to anything anymore?

Anyway, to Thinker: Uncharted does look really good. I'm looking forward to some good multiplayer PS3 games though. It seems to be getting some great single player games, but few co-op ones.

by Thinker - 2007-11-20 10:59:15
To Stealth

Possibly. I've been looking at some screenshots of Mass Effect and they look really good. Unfortunately, it also has loading and frame problems (I think the reason for that is its extensive graphics). Here's the link if you want to know about the tech glitches. Why didn't BioWare take the time to polish everything before pushing it? Here's the link for the IGN review: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/833/833640p4.html

by JackBeNimble - 2007-11-20 19:03:08
huh??

not news to me when has any big square titles arrived on time in the last couple of year. KHII delays anyone.

by Esaar - 2007-11-20 19:46:23
Just be patient.

I can say with 90% certainty that everyone can forget about FFXIII coming to North America before the end of 2009. Maybe even more.

by Mr Toasty - 2007-11-20 21:10:57
@thinker

Tycho over at penny arcade pointed out that the lack of any hard drive caching could be the reason for long loading times.

by Payka - 2007-11-21 02:29:51
uhhh, research much? NO

Sqeenix have clearly stated that they are changing to the unreal engine. They will probably start using it in versus xiii. Do some research.
