Final Fantasy XIII: new style, demo will have lots of volume, more |
Ó
Let's draw away from the Leipzig Games Convention for a while, with news coming out for Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 360), courtesy of Famitsu. The news piece from the Japanese mag talks about the game's "new style" of telling its story through the main character (or lack of it), the new battle system, and what we can expect from the game's demo.
According to Famitsu, Final Fantasy XIII will have a "new style" where there won't actually be a singular person you can call as the "main character." Rather, you'll be experiencing the story from the perspective of multiple characters.
The battle system will be reflecting this new style. The battle system is party-based, allowing you to switching between characters during the actual fight. Maybe the same style we saw in Final Fantasy 12?
In the upcoming demo, which will be included with FF7ACC, we'll get to play characters other than Lightening, including the blonde male in the image above. He's still nameless, but it's confirmed he'll also have a weather-themed name (Cloud? Hah). The demo itself will be long - Square Enix's Motomu Toriyama said that:
Like the FFVII demo that was included with PlayStation's Tobal Nol.1, you'll be able to play from the opening through the prologue. We're making it so that players will understand about the world of the Cocoon and how the Lucys are handled.
We'd like to make it something with lots of volume. I think it will be longer than FFVIIAC.

I'm out from Final Fantasy. Square Enix dissapointed me.
Square-Enix just doesn't know how to make a good ff game. The demo will probably be longer than FFVIIAC because you will probably be watching a cutscene most of the time and only get about 5-10 minutes of actual gameplay.
In any case, it looks more like they are trying to put the ff13 demo in FFVIIAC to try and get more sales for ff13 since everyone knows it will be horrible just like their other games.
"Rather, you'll be experiencing the story from the perspective of multiple characters"
-> Like Siren?
This game wont turn out. Square have been unable to make a decent FF game since FFIX. I think its because of the loss of so many great designers which made the older FF games great.
In the other FFXIII Related tid-bit of news... (Famitsu etc)
THIS : "FFXIII will definitely have a party battle system where you control each character as they switch turns, like in a normal Final Fantasy. It will not be like FFXII." was shout out by the magazine.
And now, from the same source (QJ.net) comes a blogger saying : "Maybe the same style we saw in Final Fantasy 12?"
Now either I'm an idiot, or that makes no sense. Will you please make up your mind and tells us the facts and not what you think? Journalism does not include personal opinions.
Later... Bugga12
You sound just like a friend of mine that dissed Final Fantasy VII. It was funny because he said that it played itself until I said ok, that he should give it a try. After playing it for about a minute and seeing him get stomped, he said "Oh!". It took him awhile to get the hang of it and after playing it for awhile, it is now one his favorite games.
A question for you DNAgent.... Have you played Final Fantasy VII?
It was a good game. The thing is, it was made by Squaresoft and NOT Square-Enix. I said Square-Enix just doesn't know how to make a good ff game. In fact the last good ff game on consoles was ff9. Maybe Square-Enix can do better on handhelds but when it comes to consoles they just fail.
what does ff7 have to do with this game? plz keep this on topic.
what DNAgent is saying is somewhat true. they only reason they're having a demo in ACC is so that more people will
1)buy ACC
2)want to buy ff13 whenever it comes out.
and what he was saying about it mostly being a cutscene and then 5-10 minutes of gameplay might be true if SE sticks with their current development, because its been i think 2 years since 13 was announced and we still haven't seen much, if any, gameplay.
and another thing. ff7 is a great game, but now its just overrated. i got the game when it first came out, still have the same copy of the game, and an extra copy that i got from a friend, played the hell out of the game, and loved it, but the best in the series? no. i prefer 8.
i noticed that too. when squaresoft and enix merged, the quality of games did drop. ffx was a great game, but too slow imo, and the story wasn't that great. ff11 is fail, ff12 was pretty good but still not as impacting as ff7-9. also i noticed that they've been spitting out games like crazy. they work on too many games at once. and i agree with your handheld/console thing. they do a better job at handheld games. much better than most devs. their console games are alright, but not as good as the handhelds.
@DNAgent
Nothing DNAgent said is true because it's all 100% speculation.
Many games have long intro FMV's. So what? Don't like it? Don't buy games that are FMV based.
As for SE making a demo because they hope to sell more games.....DUH!!!!!!!! WTF do you think a demo is for?
Obviously that's your opinion and it's certainly not backed up by sales. X-2 was the only major drop in sales.
Countless people enjoyed 10 and 12.
before saying things you should always back them up. You dont know how the game is, how the story line will be (or maybe just a little) and its good that SE has been working on this game for some time that way they wont make it as *****t as other of heir console games[/br][/br]And maybe DNAgent and Azrael are true, their hanheld games are better than the console gamess (maybe because of the limited hardware specs and graphics?)[/br][/br]I would like to see the game be like Crisis Core but Part Based
..looks anime-ish.
O_O
i bet they will conquer japan with that.
To everyone above, Square Soft > Square Enix because of Hironobu Sakaguchi
if you don't know him, you should look him up and smack yourself
FF games have been total crap since final fantasy mystic quest.
SquareEnix should realize that releasing this game for 360 is a waste of time as most ppl that would even buy their crap have a PS3 already.
