Final Fantasy VII - Image 1

The Examiner is reporting that Square Enix' Final Fantasy VII has just earned for itself the recognition of being the PSN's top download since its launch last week. Debuting at US$ 9.99, the famed RPG title is now the most in demand for both the PSP and PS3.

No exact numbers were mentioned, but the report did say that coming up at second place is Capcom's Resident Evil: Director's Cut. Have you downloaded your fair share of FFVII yet?

you would think nintendo would learn from this and put earthbound on the wii virtual console.

I hope Square sees this game still being a big hit after so long and make an HD remix with the same game play and story but with an HD look. Maybe this was a test to see how they would do with the series.

stop spamming and it's a good game, but people over blow it based on others opinions. you play 9 or even 8 and you realize that they're better. it was revolutionary and set rpg standards high, but there have been many wonderful games since the release.

I played 8, and 9 afterwards and still felt 7 was the superior title. I'll admit 8 didn't appeal to me at all after 7, so I didn't give it much play, but I did play enough of it to get a feel for it.

9 was more my style so I played threw that and very much enjoyed it... Still doesn't hold a candle to 7.

7 was so special for many reasons, its crazy to speculate this love of the game is based on some kind of biased opinionated demographic.

Classic games will always there because we love them for a personal reason.

I must be one of the rare people hoping THEY DON'T REMAKE it though. You can't remake the classics, doesn't work in the movies and it won't work for this game either.

A true sequel, well now we're talking...

I liked 8 much more than 7 but then I wasn't that keen on 8 as well so it's not saying much. Even after a decade or so I still just can't find one thing I liked about FFVII.

Can't be that I hate all RPGs. I found myself quite enjoying Grandia which is odd cos I generally dislike the cutesy anime style. I think maybe it was just less depressing and had a much more fun battle system.

Did you know that earthbound is actually about child molestation??? hence why the game was UBER limited in the US for nes and SNES? its quite sick considering that that guy that heals you says "Take off your clothes and close your eyes...this will hurt only a little" and your health gets restored. thats a RPG i HOPE gets a godlike fix...no more pedobears PLZ

I hope this will inspire more developers to release PS1 classics on the store because people are actually willing to buy games on the PS3...

This market has been untapped in the EU and US for far too long now, SCEA and SCEE should look at SCEJ and their offering of PS1 classics, lots of games on there.

# Final Fantasy VIII is awesome too!GUNBEHINDTHESUN 2009-06-14 03:37
You say you haven't played it through because it didn't appeal to you. I know the beginning of Final Fantasy VIII is slow, but once you get a few hours into it, it really picks up pretty awesome. Even later there are some pretty cool plot twists and you will realise how really cool the story really is. Also I like how they upgraded the graphics in FF8.

# Can we get some trophies for ps1 classics, please?NeoHumpty 2009-06-14 05:55
I would love a true sequel with the same game play set-up. Materia and all. I'm not sure if I would play an HD re-make or not. I'm not buying this one, either. If they could incorporate trophies to earn I would have to play again. I love the game, I have just beaten it SO many times. Last time I played, I killed Sephiroth without him ever even touching me.

Gold trophy earned-Breed Gold Chocobo

Gold trophy earned-Defeat Weapon

Gold trophy earned-Smite Sephiroth in one hit.

this is my first time playing the original ff7 since my ps1 broke b4 i could play it. and i gotta say the game is amazing. ive already put over 60 hours of gameplay into it and its worth it, the game is incredible, no wonder it is still one of the greatest games of all time. i have to say the amount of content in this game is amazing. most next gen games cant even compare. I mean there are so many side quests, minigames, and character stories to follow that you can never get bored, and the rewards are great without even incorporating trophies...(ex. chocobo breeding is long and difficult but once you get that gold oversized chicken you realize it is sooo worth the trouble). im just saying a remake would blow every next gen game out of the water! the only other game that can really compare is mgs4 because of the amazing story and amount of content. playing ff7 makes me realize that game developers have become lazy because either ff7 is a game way ahead of its time or everyone is way behind, even with todays technology

I enjoyed FF9 as much as I enjoyed FF7. FF8 was a huge pile of shyte, if you ask me. It's the only title in the main series besides FF11 (because it's an MMO) that I have no interest in owning.

I knew it would sell amazingly, I just sold my hard copy on amazon.com for over $50. At $9.99 it's a crazy steal. I have my fiance playing it for the first time, and I'm playing it again as well. My master save has almost all the stats to 255 but this time I want to complete my enemy skill materia. FFVII is not over-rated, it was basically my first RPG when I was 13, I'm 25 now and I'm an RPG nutcase. One game can change so much. No more sequels needed, a remake of the game could tie all the stories in but... I don't really care if they do.

People like you who talk trash and say "NO NO NO!! I'll never get a FF7 remake with PS3 graphics and HD...etc" are just disagreeing for the sake. We all know if they remake it with trophies and add voice overs and upped the graphics while keeping it the same, you remake bashes will still get it.

I love how people also say "NO I don't want a remake. It'll ruin the original and never have the same impact and etc"

First off I laugh at this statement. How the hell can it ruin the original, exactly? It can't ruin the gameplay, it can't ruin the graphics which are utterly crap blocky character models. Voice overs would be stellar. The original is out on PSN, people still own the discs. You can't ruin those cause it already happened 10 years ago. The only game that ruined FF7 was DoC cause FF7 was about cloud, not an only shooter/rpg of vincent. Now if the title was called Dirge of Cerberus without the FF7 tag in front and based off vincent only, that'd be great. But no.

At anyrate I agree with d00b here. If this garner huge amount of sales like in the 10s of millions, than I can say a remake would flourish more with the new fans that got into FF7 with AC, CC, DoC who want voice overs and better graphics and wouldn't play FF7 due to the crappy graphics and lack of VO's.

Remakes by definition is keep everything the same except improve controls, graphics and sound. Nothing more. This "OMG this remake will ruin FF7 and won't have the same impact it did", well it probably won't have the same impact, but it won't ruin FF7. You have the original, nothing will touch it; But FF7 remake will garner a crap load of cash for SE and they know it.
