There were things in the Tetsuya Nomura interview with Gemaga that Gamefront.de overlooked. Luckily, across the border from Germany is France, home to JeuxFrance, which fills in the holes in the Life data stream. And the holes filled in has sent some people here in QJ hopping like Viera (no naughty thoughts now, you rascally rabbids).Besides the entire Kingdom Hearts-esque gameplay, Nomura-san revealed that (unless Google translate is horribly wrong): "Final Fantasy Versus XIII is the last play which it directs as regards the Final Fantasy series, because it is much of pressure..." Well, he's had a long history with Final Fantasy, beginning with work in FFIV back in 1991, although he came to fore as character designer in Final Fantasy VII (and is obviously most associated with that title and the series from then on).
Then again, checking up on IMDB (unless that's wrong, too), his directorial credits revolve primarily around the Kingdom Hearts series, with his primary contribution to the main FF series is as a character designer. Because of poor French language skills, this writer can't resolve exactly what Nomura meant in the Gemaga interview, but it's safe to say this: after Versus, he will have his hands rather full with the next Kingdom Hearts.
That's not the only thing that's gotten QJ people hopping like Viera. Well, a small part of it is JeuxFrance's suggestion - or question, check the source link - that KH3 is confirmed for PS3, but the bigger part is this clause that follows the entire "last direct" statement:
... because it is much of pressure and it thus prefers to work on the series Kingdom Hearts or a remake.
Never mind the KH preference, but the preference to work on a remake?! Of... of... of... (do we even have to mention what every FF fanboy dream remake is?)... Get my earplugs, quick! Nomura-san has mentioned in previous inteviews that once ff 13 versus and KH3 are done there is a good chance he will remake ff7.
I think at this point it is not IF but WHEN. VII of course is the next in line for a remake and would serve to complete the full modern "compilation of FF VII" project.

FFVII is so freakin overrated....
i hope Square at least remakes all the PS Final Fantasys (FFVIII...*crosses fingers*) and woot on FFXIII
If there is to be any Remakes I hope to see a FFVII remake and Chrono Trigger remake and if both are on the PS3. Then I would be happy to go out and buy a PS3.
FFVIII: Way Overrated when you compare to VII.
