Final Fantasy Versus XIII has world map, airship

Missing the overworld map found in older Final Fantasy titles? Be sure to check out Final Fantasy Versus XIII, then. Tetsuya Nomura recently reconfirmed that the game will feature a world map. Not only that, but you also get to travel around in an airship.

This was revealed in a Twitter interview conducted by Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto. When asked how far along Versus XIII is, Nomura answered:

Not everything is connected together, so the various areas have different levels of progress. However, you can fly across the world map in an air ship.

As far as a release date is concerned, however, Square Enix is keeping a tight lid on that. Still, Nomura indicated that he wanted to release at least two games within the year, although presumably this applies just to Japan. Nomura has his hands deep in Versus XIII, Agito XIII, and The 3rd Birthday right now, and those are just the confirmed games.

It is ignorant but you can't blame 'em. Everybody is assuming FFvXIII is better because of the fact that it will be PS3 only, and exclusives on a PS3 are marvelous. And this will be SE's second crack on the PS3. So whatever areas in FFXIII needs inprovemnt, didn't turn out right, or didn't make it in the final cut, it will be fixed, improved on, or added into FFvXIII.

this game's director is a genius as is it's musical composer.
Also the whole mindset of this game is different, you can just smell it's a game for the real fans, and not for the masses.

the directors way of thinking is just different, different than what we heard about ff13 which was all a bunch of "look at our game being cool" news.

it has a world map+airship, it has a new type of story, and as the director said it's characters have more psychological depth than what is done before.

it's fighting system is like that of kingdom hearts which is for me a plus but might be less of a plus for others.

all things that have been said about this game by SE officials have been things appealing to the fans.

FFXIII is a fun game but the seriously raped some of the games greatest elements and made them "easily accesible" to apeal to the masses. (paradigm system, control only 1 character, multiplatform which meant side quests were to be eliminated cause of a lack of disc space.

i'm 20 hours into FFXIII, i'm having lots of fun and the battle system is the most exciting one in the series thus far but, they had to mess with it and put in the roles paradigm system which minimalizes the coolness of the new battle system's combo aspect.

every role has only a few abilities to use and thus creativity from the player is minimized.

FFXIII = sucks

FFvXIII = godlike

The Optima change(Prefer that name over paradigm shift) system is the whole fun of the battle system. Mastering it, learning how to use various changes and group compositions to your advantage, has been one of my greater joys with the game so far.

FF games use to be enjoyable and actually fun to replay it for few times....

Right now, i just cant wait to just beat this sheeit...GOd cant stand the dame annoying emotionless characters and the freaking longest battles and they aint even bosses.
Fk. it , man...all i really freaking do in 13 is Meshing 1 dame button 96% of the times....

If you think the battles are long, there's something wrong about how you're playing it. Try getting 5 star ratings on every battle (which means wiping out every enemy really fast). Tip: just mashing the X button won't work.

FFXIII was a huge let down with it's repetitive combat, unoriginal story and characters, linear levels, and boring character customization. Then again what can you expect from the director of Final Fantasy X-2...

Here's Hoping versus will be better.

I am really looking forward to this, haven't got FFXIII yet I suspect there'll be a "Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII" (yes I wiki'd that) bundle with all three games.

i loved ff12. there was alot of stuff to do. plus there was no random encounters, and the loot system was pretty fun. i love ff7 too, but its possible to do everything in under 50 hours or so. people hate change, and that's all ff13 is...change. ff13 can barely even be caled a final fantasy game, but it is an enjoyable rpg nonetheless. just because ff13 is different doesn't mean you have to be a b###h hater.

my comment was vague and wasn't clear to the point.

Notice when I said "My only problem is..."
Which imply that I don't care much about the linearity part, if the game designers see it fits and they want us to focus on a great story.

I was talking about the character design here.

The physical appearance to be exact.
I haven't played the game yet to judge her real personality. (I'm getting the game from my friend after he finish it)

I understand the concept behind that design & what impression it should give but I just don't like the end result.

And It would be annoying -at least for me- to play a game when I don't like the lead character I'm controlling.

In contrary "Noctis" in FF Versus XIII give a good mysterious impression, I'm just too curious to find out his story.

But when I'll start playing the game maybe my initial impression fade away.

I'm sure it will. Idk what made you think that, but Lightning isn't annoying at all. Maybe a little too rough for her own good, but good thing about the story is that the characters (all of them) maturity grow as the plot develops.

Annoying... is Vanille at the beginning. She always seems to be out of place and not in the same pace as the rest (I got the feeling the motion actress was trying too hard to stand out, and the high pitch english voice didn't help either). Fortunately, as the story goes further, the actress must have started taking her prozac, allowing the character story to develop nicely.

Wow, it looks like Nomura is leading a lot (or all?) of squares upcoming major properties.

I hope he knows what he's doing. I've been disappointed with almost everything out of square for almost decade.

You guys are so stupid. You can't see how good FF13 is because you're so focused on the past and nostalgia. Things change, they expand... and FF13's batttle system gets rid of the redundancy of normal JRPG battles. I hate small minded people like most of the commenters here.

They aren't expanding, they are contracting if anything. FFXIII is a simple game for simple minds. People want a challenge, something to feel good about when they beat the game. 13 just holds your hand through the whole experience with such a dumbed down battle system.

Maybe you should actually play the older games before you go thinking 'old = bad' ok? Thanks.

i cant believe how narow minded people can be, FF 13 is one of the greatest FF's i've played in recent years, you want an example of a shit FF? ever played X-2?

i can see peoples point though, older FF's where better in SOME ways (VII being the greatest IMO) but thats in the past, things change and move on, but it seems some people CAN NOT get used to this.

But the problem is that the people who loved the old FF-games are likely about the same age as me. Alot of them acts as old grumpa grandpas and jusst want the nostalgy of playing those old games with a new story.

I rushed out and bought Final Fantasy 13 hoping everyone was wrong. Its a beautiful game and justifies the money i spent on my tv but the story is boring, the characters can be interesting but that's all the story is, the characters being dramatic and starting drama i feel like im trying to have a dam relationship when i play it. They have an event in the game that was pointless, they fake killing someone one off to get a rise out of you and a hour later hey guess what their still alive for the rest of the game, pointless drama and theirs not even a reason that it happened it just did lol.

It can be fun to play but i find myself for periods sitting their wondering how they thought this would be fun for more then one play through let alone level up when the experience necessary later on doesn't help it gets ridiculous if you go into the characters optional classes by the end.

Overall its worth playing but it has a lot of waster potential to me its better then 12 because the license system pissed me off royally. You want to use the item you just spent a billion gil on? Guess what have fun grinding for a week to even use it. It really bugged me you had to get a license for everything and you had to work your way into the table to get some, it was just a bit much.

I honestly think square has been trying to hard. They should just remake 7 and 9 with better graphics and stop spreading their development teams

I think all this talk about good versus bad FF games is way out of line. FF has always been a series that tried to push and experiment with the RPG genre. While for some of us FF13 may be a lesser game(myself included but thats besides the point) other think its fantastic. I do personally believe that the quality of Square games has declined but that is because of one thing, a wider audience and less control of the market. They are focusing on expanding their game audience but they have also lost alot of creative minds and talent in the process. Sakaguchi, Nomura, Kitase and Uematsu were the core team that made it possible to love final fantasy. Until Square gets its head out of its ass and brings those guys back together, we will never have another game as great as 9 or 7.
But thats reality and we have to face it. Final fantasy is changing and we as its long time fans need to be more accepting of its evolution. Stop the bickering over why each game sucks and recognize the beauty and the detail that the team put into their work. When im standing in the Cities of Cocoon or roaming the Palamecia i dont think "gee these corridors sure are boring" no instead i look around and say "hey that right there is some damn fine detail and that animation over there really adds to the ambiance of the level."

I understand debating final fantasy is all part of its culture. each game is a little more flame bait and i love it. But we need to understand that Final Fantasy has spanned for over 20 years. Thats a long time and if you thought that you were going to be playing FF1 on your ps3 all over again, then maybe its time u move on to a series like call of duty. God knows there aren't enough fanboys there.
