"Ferrox" PS3 ISO Loader: no such thing

There's no such thing as a happy ending. There's no such thing as a lucky star. - Image 1There is a saying: the drama stops where the buck also stops: where it counts, and where it hurts. There must be a reason why the video of the supposed PS3 ISO Loader "is no longer available", and that's because, in an important sense, there's no such thing to begin with.

Enter Nevada, QJ forum member, who is trying to clarify this entire issue over there. Long story short (long story in the forums, by the way), the videos are what we could call proof-of-concepts, a "Hello, World!" if you will, of the exploit that was found. Interpreting Nevada's post (and subsequent posts) in the forums, neither he nor those he had worked with (it's probably a team since he uses "we" at some points) intend to use the exploit to develop their own ISO loader. He even points out that Paradox is working on theirs, anyway.

It is possible that part of the confusion that arose over the exploit vids came about because the intent behind them was never clear - just a "Hello, World!" with no further development on the part of those who discovered it to flesh out into a loader. In fact, they "have informed Sony" of the flaw in question. Nevada goes further (verbatim):

infact for the sake of the argument, i'd like all of you to just assume the videos are fake if you've no intrest in them other than "omg i want to pirate games", to anyone who is actually intrested in running your own code without 'all' the hyperivsor restrictions, theres enough in the videos to give you a good start.

We're not going to go back to that debate about the economic impact of piracy, only to say that each one's intellectual property is his own business, and thus his choice as to go commercial or free/shareware, and we respect choices, so be it. The only thing that really matters now is that as of this post, there is only one ISO loader in development, Paradox's. There's a Read-Only link at the end of this article for further info on this - it leads straight to the page where Nevada makes this post - but note that the thread is locked.

And with that, the buck stops here. End of story.

It's a good thing they've informed Sony. The PS3 has Linux, it doesn't need an exploit, all that could come out of it is piracy and piracy doesn't help anyone.

looks like everyone don't remember the dreamcast fate... if u said... I only do that for homebrew like the psp.. well.. linux it's there... piracy makes that the console don't get the support.. and if the 360 have the same games for less well.. u know

the ps2 had the most rampant piracy of any of the next gen systems. in fact the pirace for the ps2 was way more prevalent then on the dreamcast thanks to high speed internet. the console with the largest market will aslo have the higest piracy rate and the highest sales rate. i mod consoles because i enjoy homebrew and trying out games before i buy them...pirated games are great to try but i want to have a legitimate copy of games that i enjoy but if the game sucks i dont loose any money.

piracy really hurts no one if you belive it does your retarded the ps2 had the best piracy ever and still #1 system of any Gen:) the vast majority of consumers arnt smart enough to take advantage of xploits the companys losses to this kind of thing are very small youll notice xbox and nintendo have wisely decided to put there resouces to better use and stop trying. the only real piracy that these companys are hurt by is the chinese mass pirates that perfectly manufacture replica discs i.e. no xploit or chips needed.

P.S. this nevada charicter is sooo full of it the thing was totaly fake if the video was intended as a hello world and thats it to just give us hints at how "we" did it then why the shady fake vid tactics why not have good lighting and a quality vid with no obvius heres where i edited it spots plus he gos through these long storys that dont add up he talks about miss shiped dev kits but thats not how he got his dev kit rev A just how his mystery programer buddys got fired and came to him to join his master hacker darkside LOL why did he never say or post about having a dev kit b4 wouldnt that have been something to post about?

the piracy base for consoles is rapidly increasing with new systems (specially with PSP) because of the accessibility of the technology and information.

If there was an exploit that could have led to an iso loader, I hope Sony knows. I'd find it amusing to see the ISO loader release and it not work on the new firmware at the euro release... I bet Paradox is worried about that...

I don't get it, why do so many people post on Qj about how they hate Qj? Why don't you just go to a different site?

if they didn't stop and report to sony, sony might have pulled linux or something. so stop whining about not being able to pirate games and stuff.

Paradox have stated, a few weeks ago, that one of the reasons they are holding back is the European launch, to see if Sony have any surprises.

i doubt paradox has any boot loader in the works. all they have is a 2.5 serial to 3.5 hdd adapter. they have no loader in the works, they are supplying the games, sure. but they are waiting for someone else to make the loader. someone needs to get ahold of dark_alex, the hacker for psp fame, and tell him to make a devhook for ps3. !!
