Fatal Inertia screenshots, PS3 version still on hold |

After delaying it for a couple of months, Koei has finally confirmed a concrete release date for its gravity-defying racing Fatal Inertia. However, we guess the original plan of having a simultaneous release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 no longer stands as the confirmation, which was done via a press release, specifically mentioned Microsoft's console.
It seems that Koei Senior VP Amos Ip couldn't wait as he mentioned, "Armed with an eclectic variety of weapons and racing challenges, plus elegant and intuitive driver controls, Fatal Inertia is quite simply bringing high-speed fun and excitement back to the combat racing genre."
Speaking about features, the title sports a lot of new improvements that will leave fans gushing. One such example is Fatal Inertia's customize feature that allows players to modify each ship to compliment their gameplay style. Lead Game Designer Michael Bond added:
Designing Fatal Inertia's gameplay around a physics engine helped us create dynamic weapons with multiple tactical applications. We've based many of the game's weapons on straightforward physical principles, and by doing so we're giving players the freedom to come up with their own creative ways of using them.
While waiting for September 11 and the release date confirmation for the PS3 version, here are new Fatal Inertia screenshots for both platforms.

"While the Xbox 360 version will ship on September 11, the PlayStation 3 version has been "delayed indefinitely," a Koei representative told Game|Life this morning.
The delay, he said, is due to "the delay is due to the progress of the game engine for PS3." Fatal Inertia uses Unreal Engine 3, middleware produced by Epic Games."

But every single game you have promised to be exclusive or better on your system has gone through the same cycle.
1. Announced PS3 Exclusive
2. Announced PS3 Exclusive now on 360 as well
3. Announced 360 version comes out first with PS3 Version sometime later........
....repeat with next big title.
I mean come on! I had to buy Rainbow for 360, then had to buy Dirt on 360 to get it first day, now Im going have to get Fatal Inertia on 360 to have it.
Why the ***** do I have my PS3 then? Its only a matter of time before we hear this same news about Assasins Creed which is already on step two. Same with DMC 4. Then MGS4 will probably be next, Then Final Fantasy XIII, and so on until every game comes out a year earlier on 360.
***** this, Im selling the damn thing

Uhh, this game is using Unreal engine 3... THE MOST NEXT GEN ENGINE on the market....so i'm not sure what crack you are smoking buddy...
It's also one of the biggest NEXT GEN engines on the market, and if devs are having a hard time getting the code running smoothly on PS3....that's bad news...

I know all about different engines, thing is, this game is not using those different engines...it is using UNREAL III engine, which at this point is THE MOST ADVANCED GAME ENGINE AROUND....so you saying they are lazy and using last gen techniques makes you sound like a real idiot....
Also, i'd like to know what "next gen techniques" are ? I know there is a new model of pixel shader for directx 10, which neither system supports...but it's still pixel shading.
The thing is, both systems are using the exact same types of rendering and effects as Xbox did, they are just doing more of them and faster. I program, I know that there are many ways to approach a situation...but graphically in this era we are still dealing with the same things as last era....polygons models, textures and vertex/pixel shading for detail/effects......you can try approaching the visuals anyway you want but in the end you always have to use polygons, textures and shaders to create your imagery...no matter what...
There really is no "next gen" technology in either system....so please stop with that nonsensical "I'll throw around some jargon and sound smart" BS....

It looks crap, and is nothing special.
Wipeout will wipe the floor with the ship-racing genre.

On the other hand one they are bound to get it resolved eventually. I remember back in the day one of the Unreal developer mentioned what a difficult time they had with performance on Voodoo originally. Eventually they realized something that they could get state changes for almost free on the voodoo and didn't have to optimize order to minimize state changes for it.
Give them a year and things will be released in parallel again, with lower quality on PS3. Give them two years and the PS3 quality will probably be better on multiplatform releases.

The other less likely choice is that developer tried to customize some part of the engine for the game and lost performance.
Assuming the first means unless they get the performance up to snuff that other Unreal 3 based game will have delayed release regardless of the published date, and they are just hoping the issue will get resolved before the date gets pushed.
