What seems to be another contender to the survival-horror scene is Rainy Woods, a spine-chilling title set in a creepy town with the same name. Sounds familiar? You could be wrong, because this isn't your casual Japanese horror fare; it's coming from Marvelous Entertainment, known as publishers of brutally addictive yet painfully cute Harvest Moon.

According to IGN's coverage of Famitsu's revelation, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners are in for a ride. When the body of Anna Graham suddenly appears outside Rainy Woods, commotion starts and the FBI gets involved. To the rescue comes David Young Henning, FBI agent sent to investigate and find out if the legendary Raincoat Killer is behind the incident.

Unlike other survival horror titles that squeeze players into tight hallways and force them to walk a scare-filled path in linear fashion, Rainy Woods takes the sandbox approach. This isn't Grand Theft Auto, but you can freely move and even take your car for a ride around an open-ended town clearly inspired by modern west American houses.

To get a better picture, take a look at the screenshots from Famitsu's latest issue. It doesn't take much to realize that there will be psychopathic women, but a wild guess won't reveal how the protagonist David suffers from multiple personality disorder. Jeter, David's imaginary friend, supposedly helps out by giving tips related to the investigation.

Combat will involve some gun-shootin' and sword-slashin', hopefully with no cowboys in the mix. We can't confirm yet what the enemies will be, but they're definitely not human. Updates as we get them, so watch this space!

Graphics?

I know that game-play is 90% of things, but the graphics are pretty plain. And a scary game should feel scary. I think that the silent hill origins demo shows what you can do with survival horror. And that's on the psp!

Have Patience

You're talking about a game that won't be here for a while. I'm sure the graphics will be tweaked more than enough by the time it goes gold. I just take a look at the rain effects on the third screenshot to see the potential. This is completely different from the approach a lot of other games try to do. It kind of reminds me of The Thing, in that there's a bigger focus on the outdoors rather than always in the cramp nether regions of some mansion. Kudos to Marvelous Entertainment. Kudos.
