Fallout 3: why shift to FPS, on a Fallout MMO, on DLC, more |
Ó
Fallout 3 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC) has received a lot of outcries from fans, mostly because it shifted to FPS instead of following the tradition of the previous Fallout game. In a recent interview, producer Peter Hines alleviates fears of fan by explaining a few things.
According to Hines, the game remains true to the spirit of the series, and employed the first-person for more immersion in the story:
We simply felt that first-person was the best way to totally immerse the player in the world of Fallout. Not looking down on it from above, but getting you right in there where everything is big and real and in your face.
Fallout 3 is true to the Fallout series; it's an RPG. That doesn't mean that we don't spend a lot of time on the combat and making it as fun and as good as possible. Most people spend a lot of time in RPGs exploring around and killing things.
We want to make that as much fun as it can be. But just because that's important to us doesn't mean that's all there is to the game.
Hines also reveals that Bethesda Softworks, who owns the IP to the Fallout series, has licensed rights to Interplay to make a Fallout MMO, which we've known for some time now. He doesn't reveal any further on the subject though.
Hines also reveals that DLC is possible, but they aren't looking into it right now: "Our content folks are still focused on making the game. We'll have plenty of time to think about doing DLC later."

I think this is going to be another over hyped title like oblivion was :-\.
i remember when i could look at the shelves in the shops and see more than fps..
personally one or two of them by year is more than enought...
please sony, leave fps to 360 and remember about good adventure, role playing and sports games.
Everyone knows Sony makes the games, those other companies take their merit unduly.
i agree with you fully, this game has drastically fallen down my list because of this shift to FPS POV... First Person view turns me off.
my favorite games for this generation alone are Uncharted, Heavenly, Assassins, Rachet, DMC4, Warhawk, Oblivion (in 3rd person view) and Ninja Gaiden... all none FPS... to me these games are even better than Resistance and even the much adored COD4 (which I both have).
It will fail. Remember Shadowrun? They tried the same thing.
Shadowrun was a complete an utter piece of crap. Microsoft should have taken the time to look at the past games in the franchise which were purely 100% rpgs and heavily based on the Shadowrun universe + they went for isometric view perspective for that rpg look. Where as Microsoft went totally first person and no rpg elements in there at all, and the game was a complete mess.
Fallout 3 should be done in isometric view NOT FPS view. If I`m playing Fallout I want a rpg game, NOT a FPS game.
Bethedsa is just trying to oblivionise Fallout. Which is a true disaster for the series in alot of ways.
played Oblivion using the 3rd person view... actually if the option wasn't present in the game at all, if you're forced to use the 1st person view to play it then i wouldn't have bought the game at all.
i agree 100% with the Shadowrun comment, i almost forgot about the game... well it's not worth remembering anyway.
The game wasent all that bad. But even the pc version required that you payed for xbox live service to play it online and uhh LOL thats NEVER going to happen so ill just play the million other fps games like it for free online. Might and Magic for instance Exactly the same thing as shadowrun free online play.
Day one... can't wait.
Ah, whatever. Least you aren't paid for your opinion. Oblivion earned it's place in RPG history. It has nothing to prove to you. ;)

There's just somthing about this studio. Been a fan since Morrowind. In an industry where linear J-RPG's following pointy hair man-boys with emo tendencies it was a breath of fresh air. Fall isn't here fast enough.
