We know, we know. Sony promised EyePet will be coming on November 17th, 2009. Unfortunately, there's been some change in plans. The virtual pet has been pushed back to a Spring 2010 release.

The change in schedule was first spotted on GameStop's page, and was later on confirmed by Sony. According to their official statement regarding the matter:

The North American territory has decided to take additional time to focus on the EyePet product and can confirm it will not be available this holiday. EyePet is an innovative and exciting new IP to the PS3 platform and SCEA marketing will spend additional time to continue educating consumers and retail channels, setting the table for a successful product launch. We will provide more details on an updated launch timeframe very soon.

I suppose it'll be the same for Europe too? I was counting on getting this as a christmas present for my girlfriends kid.

I think its so they can release it with their "sphere".

Wow

I've read a lot of people commenting that they were getting this for kids that are visiting (or their own) for the holidays. That's a bit of a blow to Sony. They really do need more kiddie games. I'd like to have something other than TMNT and LBP for my kid. Maybe something that will actually teach them something?

WTF!?!?!?!?!

BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! That sucks. I was looking forward to getting this. Looks like I made the typical mistake of showing it to the kiddies already :( Plus, I wanted to play with it! Damn it!!!!

WTF!?!?!?!?!

I'll buy them a new cat and tell them Sony made the virtual pet even better!!!

I doubt it, considering the sphere is not needed for this game. All it takes is finding one major bug or design flaw that cannot be easily fixed and a game can get pushed back.

Eyepet can't get up on my shelves and knock all my stuff on the floor like my friends cat did when he brought it over.
