Experts talk about what Sony needs in E3 to get flying colors |

E3 is the major event for gamers, developers, and publishers alike. Whatever waves that huge hurricane of video games create can decide whether something will end up a tsunami, or ultimately flop. That said, Sony will need a great boost from this much anticipated gathering where everyone is fighting for the spotlight. Industry experts Michael Pachter, Billy Berghammer, N'Gai Croal, and Shane Shatterfield sat down with Geoff Keighly to discuss about what can revitalize the PS3 and PSP.
Hottest issues on PS3's shoulders include exclusivity, the steep price, and the fact that some don't experience hardware superiority that Sony promised.
The guys at Bonus Round pretty much concluded that the PS3 needs more games to increase momentum. Lair, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Final Fantasy XIII, and Metal Gear Solid 4 have been mentioned. As Shatterfield said, "Metal Gear Solid 4 can't come soon enough, Final Fantasy XIII can't come soon enough."
Pachter, known to talk a lot about price cuts, couldn't stress it more that the hefty PS3 needs to lower its tag. He believes that an announcement regarding the matter on E3 should give console sales a lift.
About the PSP, Pachter said that publishers should look at the handheld in a different light. According to him, games have been aiming for an immersive experience - something against the pick-up and play nature of portable game devices.

Hey guys check your psn second round of Warhawk beta is now out how do i get credit for this?
WHen Home drops and we get actual in-game xmb w/ custom soundtracks & messaging (not that crap in Home but what the dev kits were doing awhile back) it should be on par with the 360 feature wise. Afterwards comes the games and some more solid 1st party games on the ps3 thats going to move more units *coughcoughMGS4coughcough*. I have a bigger library of 360 games now about 15 and 2 launch titles on the ps3 and I must say for just launch titles they have way better graphics then any 360 game I HAVE. But the crappy ports with the bad frame rates make the system look bad and its really not at all.

I was thinking the same thing. Who are these experts? You need experts to tell this kind of stuff? Anyone here could have said that.
What they say is true, they need a few more exclusive games, and to lower the price tag. I will buy a ps3 regardless, but the price is the only thing holding me back. I don't care for exclusive games, just a system I can depend on. The 360 is dependable, but a few things make me turn away from it completely. To me it's a system I only play because my friend has it.
(it signed me in as Quixand...) But anyways, Why do they say they dont think the Hardware is superior? Cause (in my opinion) the PS3 has the best hardware. The controller is simple and rechargeable with Sixaxis. And the PS3 itself has everything you need.

Because 95% of cross platform games are as good if not better on the 360 than the PS3.
Why didn't they mention Warkhawk? I mean thats a high profile PSN game. And I think its gonna be a big hit.

One thing I love about my PSP, is that it offers IMMERSIVE, FULL-TIME, CONSOLE-LIKE games. Not only pick-up and play. NDS is for that. PSP is for a different crowd, stop trying to turn into an NDS. I for one want my Disgaea, Monster Hunter, Grant Theft Auto and all the PSX/PSP/GBA/SNES jRPGs I can eat on my PSP.
E3 is not the bug thing that it used to be, much more attention nowadays is payed to TGS, and places like that. Although there will still be lots of announcements, it's not the thing it once was, so stop pretending that it is.

I'm an expert, and I say it's too late. The PS3 is already dead. Even an awesome game like Metal Gear 4 can't save it because it is going to be over a year before release and even then it will become multiplatform.
Sony should stop treating people like idiots. A few examples (most of these lies and excuses were by Phil Harrison, Dave Krakker, and others.): saying Motorstorm and Resistance are so great and can only be done on the PS3 (oh please!) saying blu ray storage is necessary for this generation of gaming saying current PS3 games use only 20% of it's power. HA HA! a joke right? Oh, they're serious. saying the PS3 will be supported 10 years when it's nearly dead now and easily the least successful sony console, when neither previous console lasted 10 years (Phil lied and said PS1 and PS2 also lasted 10 years.) saying blu ray will take over store shelves "in a couple weeks like with DVD" saying sony's commitment to first and third party development is greater than the competition's combined. (It's ok to laugh out loud.) That is a big one in my book. I guess people don't mind being treated like idiots, but here are some others. Lower the price, maybe $500 for the 60gb model. Sony should offer some incentives to developers or something to get some more games developed. Hurry up with the suxaxis rumble feature. Fix or at least acknowledge the bluetooth interference. Offer XMB access in game. Put a real scaler chip in the PS3. No linear blurry "scaling" cheap ass effects you call scaling. Figure out some kind of useful PSP connectivity.
Don't you mean "if" they add in game XMB? How old are the XBOX 360 games you have? They must be launch games.

Yea sony's all talk with the PS3, when are they actually gonna do something? Just like they neglect the PSP, they will neglect the PS3 and expect their reputation to make them their sales. Not a good strategy especially when there's the 360 on the loose.
how can the ps3 be dead? It's sales are going up. Not as fast as one would hope, but going up. I can't understand how someone can say a console is dead because it's not doing as well as the others. and BTW mgs4 will never be multiplatform.

They did the exact same thing with PSP....like they said in this webcast....where is the online movie and music downloads ? We should have had that a year ago.....although they do have a half-ass implementation of it for Japan...it's still far from fully integrated.... I don't mind too much as I know how to convert movies n such, but it would still be nice to see sony back up their word.... Like common sense, my biggest beef is that Sony continues to lie and treat the consumer like an idiot....but unfortunately most consumer are idiots because they actually beleive Sony.... :(
1. Not tryin tobe rude but dont be an idiot and expect 599 to 399 all the sudden. your forgeting that the sony is losing an average of $50 USD with every PS3 console sold. 2. Your right. GTA4 could have been a ps3 exclusive if they paid rockstar. That the main reason why XBOX 360 has exclusive content. I also wonder is the 360 is goin to have GTA5 because of the 360 LIMITED SPACE. Its already using two discs for GTA4. Imagine GTA5 on three discs?!! Thats insane. (swaping discs to go to other parts of the city n *****.) 3. And yea psp wit PS3 together...USELESS!! Who needs it?? I applaud sony for pushing technology to the limits! They think ahead and build quality products, most of what they do, they do it with perfection. Sony make excellent games and aren't turning the gaming industry into a MacDonalds all you can buffet like what MS is trying to do. They really do try make compelling games. It just depends on your taste. Motorstorm is one of the best racers i've played for a while, Eye of Judgement is a very interesting card game, Uncharted is interesting and fresh looking title. Ratchet and Clank looks gorgeous and should have stelling gameplay. Wipeout is incoming and will be a smash, GT 5 always pushes the boundaries of excellence. Eye Identify looks like it will be alot of fun. Lair has an intereting plot and im impressed with the visuals etc.. what im trying to say is that the Xbox 360 is too average, i mean i sold my Xbox 360, i played gears and it was probably the best multiplayer games i've played but i dont miss it, i played PGR3 and it was one of the fastest fun racers i've played, but i prefer RR7 and Motorstorm. i feel that the Xbox 360 is very boring, I hate shooters! Halo is a shooter, Alan wake, seemsto be ok guess ill look into it. I mean really, i suppose they're is Blue Dragon, Lost Oddysee and Eternal Sonata(pS3 too!) but i hate the visual style, Eternal Sonata is good though. I dunno i hope the ps3 does well, coz the xbox 360 just dissapoints me. Forza 2 looks so bland, im sure its a good game, but it says nothing to me when i play Gran turismo for the first time i always got goose pimples, It was that good a racing game. Microsoft always cuts corners and using desperate tactics i suppose that is good for business but i dont admire them and i was going to give up gaming if the ps3 didn't eventually come out. I dunno, i can always expect sony to always push even if they fail, they're better than MS and Wii anyday
...that even time someone exchanges one console for another, suddenly everything about their previous console is uninteresting and boring and everything about their new console is awesome and exciting? You've sold your 360 and purchased a PS3, that's great and I'm sure you'll enjoy the games, but please stop looking for reasons to convince yourself that you made the right decision (because that's what it sounds like to me). MS are no better or worse than Sony in this industry, and we can argue all day about the supposidly good and bad things about both companies, but who really cares? No really? It's about games, and most of these come from developers who have no loyalty to either company anyway. So just enjoy your PS3. :)
Tell me does sony or nintnedo pay people off and tell them to make games only exclusives to there system, NO they don't. The devs who makes the games for them want to make it exclusives cause they feel there system is perfect for making it exclusives. And has it ever occurred to anyone that the sony games that went multi that used to be exclusives was never meant to be exclusives to begin with.I'll even go on to say dmc4 was also part of this. Maybe Sony doesn't need those games to beat MS maybe games like Agency and the 15 new games that are exclusives will take over.
Strife Hawkins is right, do you know MS doesn't care for people like you, hell they don't care about this industry. They are only in this gaming industry for the piece of the pie that sony ad nintendo are used to with success. They are definitely not innovative. List what they did you innovated the world of gaming since xbox1 . And everything else. They dony even use there own products, they seem compelled to compete to Sony who is in a different league in the gaming world since they been in the business from the start. Face it when you start to think about it, they take things that Sony had, like rumble.
