European gamers greatly dissatisfied with PSN downloadables

PS3 - Image 1Gamers in Europe were offered an admittedly paltry selection in PlayStation Network recently, causing them to complain to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and asking the bigwigs at SCEE (through their comments in Three Speech) why is it that they're not getting the same offerings as their US counterparts, or at least content that is on par with what US PSN subscribers already enjoy.

European gamers tried to guess what was causing them to get what is, according to them, subpar material compared to other regions. Some said it was caused by having to translate the content first into different European languages before the content's release, and some others guessed that it was due to having to make sure every downloadable content pass the ratings system for each country.

Whatever the reason, however, almost if not all European gamers upset over the PSN content feels more or less the same way, which is summed up quite nicely when a Three Speech poster said:

I guess what we all mean to say is, in a nutshell: GET A GRIP! Sony is taking its European customers for granted, and that might be their biggest mistakes yet.

Will SCEE take action? More updates to come.

I agree...

with the comment made by the three speech poster, sony does take us european customers for granted which they shouldn't, after all, they were relying on the european sales to save the PS3 as it wasn't doing so well in other regions.

OMG

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS MAKE A NEW USER THAN SIGN UP FOR A U.S. ACCOUNT WITH A U.S. CITY AND THERE YOU HAVE IT U.S. STORE AND EURO STORE
by - 2007-09-09 10:53:01
.

And why should we have to? That's kind of the point here.
by - 2007-09-09 11:02:34
and?

sony has always not given a crap about europe
by - 2007-09-09 11:07:13
damn damn damn

Well Sony PSN sucks major ass and everybody knows that. With no TV of movies to help on the network demos aren't that many to start with. Sony does need to figure something out fast. The main reason I still own my 360 is because of downloads

" Sony is taking its European customers for granted" WHAT?? NO!!!

Sony don't take europeans for granted, they just don't really care about the european market since nobody really make a lot of money out there. They may be a lot of people, but they each talk their own language, they all have different "rules" for taxes and stuff, and they don't even play a lot video games... I mean, they sell more games in Québec that in France even if France have 150 millions of people while Quebec have around 7 millions of people!!! And in Québec, the gamers play in english, so it cost a LOT LESS to devs. Anyway, the big markets are Japan (since almost everybody play videogames) and North america (since they are 330 millions and 1/3 house have a video game console.) Finally, if Europe wanna have sony's inconditionnal love, they just have to BUY a ps2/ps3/psp and buy a lot of videogames... that's all. (same for M$'s love) And for nintendo's love... they arleady have it since nintendo love everybody (they make profits from their console alone, lol, and I would have loved to have a ps3 that gives me less graphics, less stuff for a lesser price point.

.

Okay, this is bull*****. Sony can earn much more money from europe if they actually did do something for europe because there are more people living in europe than North America.
by - 2007-09-09 11:50:04
"rules"

>>They may be a lot of people, but they each talk their own language, they all have different "rules" for taxes and stuff, and they don't even play a lot video games... Ok, now you are just making stuff up to seem clever. And fail quite miserably too... Ever heard about a thing called The European Union? Kinda takes the sting out of your "rules" argument, don't it? And actually, except from the Germans and the French, most of us prefer - or at least have no problem with - playing games in English. You see we actually learn English in school over here too... And how do you know we don't play a lot of games? Gamers are everywhere on this globe! Even back here in the "Old World"... So just because Sony + friends have a different business strategy over here (and an annoying one at that, i agree), it doesn't mean they don't care. In addition to the gamers, there are just too many big devs over here for them not too. Check your "facts" next time.

Greed

I guess the people in the U.S. should complain about not getting neither Play TV for the PS3 or Go!Messenger for the PSP. >.< People need to realize, they can't get everything.
by What common sense is really about - 2007-09-09 11:57:33
.

Yeah, but that's because it's impossible for US to get the PlayTV, because they don't have the same broadcasting system as we have. But it is possible for Europe to get these kinds of stuff.
by - 2007-09-09 12:09:23
i dont get it

why cant they just combine most of the stuff in all the ps stores like move all the europe stuff to america and move the american stuff to the europe ps store
by - 2007-09-09 12:18:33
No

Sony is NOT taking the European costumers for granted. Its that the North America (Canada and US) are REALLY BIIGGGERR for sales than in Europe. But even then, who really cares about a stupid PS store anyway. We can be less lazy and walk to the store to get a game. We dont need demos, we have videos. And really who gives a crap at all about it! We lived with the PS1 and N64, so know why the big hoop? Eh? WHO CARES Its not like Sony is the richest and best online, thats Micrsoft Live.. AND IM A SONYFANBOY, so its tough to admit the fact that the PSn sucks
by - 2007-09-09 12:35:49
wtf lol

What's up with that yankee over there? Are you just another one of those yankees that have no idea of what goes on in the world and look no further than the borders of their own corrup and power hungry country, america. You need to back off and start looking at europe as an equal if not more powerfull nation than your own. America would be nowhere without the EU whatsoever. America would be nowhere without the EU whatsoever. (that needed to be said twice) Also check your facts straight; the PS2 has been sold more in europe than in america so what you said is bull*****. Also I'd like to see where you get your numbers from while you said no one in europe "makes alot of money". I can say that no one in europe sleeps outside and sits next to a hotdog store for 3 months begging for food untill he finally gets it and pisses off. Neither do I see how you think yankees make alot of money because they all spend it on fast food. Read the newspapers more and watch CNN now and then and you might get a glimp of the real world out there. now piss off to mcdonalds. Yes, sony DOES take its european customers for granted, they have always *****ed us over. we got ps3 delayed 3 times, we get the emotion chip taken out, we had to pay more, we got NO price discount, we get ***** stuff in the PSN and even the PSP was sold in europe a whole 6 months later than in the USA. sony always *****s europe over and I'm starting to get annoyed.

Sony, don't pi** me off

I've been a loyal Sony fan for over 10 years, my TV, DVD, console, PC and much more is all branded with your logo. I recently sold my Xbox 360 which I owned for 2 years to buy my PS3. I am now seriously regreting that decision. I enjoyed my 360, I reguarly played it 2-3 times a week and was very impressed with the constant updates and organisation of the Live network. In comparison, the Sony PS3 PSN network is very poor. Sort it out fast Sony, as i'm already considering a move back to Microsoft given the sweet deals i've seen around on the Elite lately..
by - 2007-09-09 13:49:30
what?

" I guess the people in the U.S. should complain about not getting neither Play TV for the PS3 or Go!Messenger for the PSP. " THEY DID! ALL OVER THE BLOODY INTERNET!! Speaking of greed, it's your money money money corporations that control you cable and phone networks that you should be complaining about. THEN playtv would actually possible in more than 1 solitary state there!
by - 2007-09-09 14:58:15
wankers

first they take away our genie chip and go oh software will make every ps1/ps2 game work bollox. and how dare they take so long to release things on the psn from to japan to usa then eventually to europe, i mean i want my *****ing snakeball
by - 2007-09-09 14:59:27
You have no idea!

@cansat The European market is nearly exactly the same size as the US and CND together! Back in PS2 times, about 45 of the ~110mil PS2s were sold in Europe!
by - 2007-09-09 15:02:26
right

1. the french suck donkey balls, 2 their was more sold on release date then usa and 3. alot of ppl in the uk make up for the european market so y give us *****y servers when it comes to the psn but its free which makes it 10billion times better than live, u know included in the games price not monthly in some cases
by - 2007-09-09 15:04:01
lol

Your a ***** Europe means Australia and ect too the rest of the world (apart from japan) so u tell me if no one in the rest of the world didn't buy PS3 it would be ok for sony just cos they got North America looool please stfu you ignorant fool sony are just *****ing it all up
by - 2007-09-09 15:41:23
not bad

but the reason they buy ps2 coz it's easy to modify chipping at it's best!
by - 2007-09-09 16:17:53
I have 3 things to say.

Yes, Europe is getting the shaft on the PSN store right now ****BUT**** 1: The US store was nothing great for the first 6 months of it's release. A few crappy demos of games no one will ever buy (gripshift?) and trailers for movies that were already out. I remember the glorious day when we finally started getting some content. Yours will come too sooner, rather that later probably. 2: You guys in Europe are getting the DVR functionality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111 I mean, for crying out loud! Do you know how huge that is???!!! I have been waiting for that announcement from the day I heard about the PS3's capabilities (way before US launch) and when it comes, it's just *****ing Europe. In 6 months when you guys on the other side of the pond have DVR and a fantastic store, you won't have ***** to say. remember 10 year system, boys. 3. We're all losing the emotion engine in the PS3 so it's pretty much a universal screw over. I guess the First-Adopters get the better deal this time. I love my PS3 and you should too.
by - 2007-09-09 16:30:30
tell me WHYYYYY

we have a strong sytem over here and its digital, Why cant they give us play tv running through a cable modem, dsl, t1, t3 connection??
by - 2007-09-09 18:04:46
so I say false things heh?

1st, the european union do NOT include how the contries put taxes, at all! 2nd, The multi-language is costly since they need to make 5 language games. 3rd, europe never sale more than US nor japan even if they are WAY MORE (150m japan, more than a billion in europe) 4th, hardware and games need to be coded differently to use PAL system of TVs and electricity power. 5th, like I said, european is an vast market that doesn't seems to buy the product... 6th, the BIG market that everybody is beginning to taunt is China, not europe. 6th, US and japan is an "installed" base, it's less costly of advertising and your product have better probability of selling, so it's less costly. last: when the disc will stop being used, when the downloadable content will be everywhere, there won't be any "market". Europe will get served at well, same for australia, africa and any other place the videogame market is long to reach...
by - 2007-09-10 01:12:39
...

Oh well.. we here in Iceland don't even get a PSN store, so we get NOTHING. The workaround we have is using an US account and buying stuff from there.. but now the Sony are saying that they will close that, so we here in Iceland won't have any PSN store whatsoever!
by - 2007-09-10 01:19:48
??

What, people live in Iceland?????
by - 2007-09-10 02:36:49
speaking out if ones ar5e!!

so nobody makes alot of money in europe then? thats funny seeing as the pound is a hell of a lot stronger than ur dollar and also the multinational companies like to call the uk "paridise island"!!! ok, the uk is only a small part of europe but you should never discount us as a small nation!!! if i had a million dollars and i decided to convert it to pound then i would only have between 600,000 to 800,00 pound!! sounds like you guys dont make alot of money!!!
by - 2007-09-10 03:55:10
Europe

@ TheWretched PS3 has sold more in NA than in Europe, so Sony takes those numbers and focuses more on where they THINK they sell better. Im not saying that Europe doesnt have Hardcore gamers, since I know some of you are crazy! lol, im just saying that the NA market is going more Sony as Europe isnt.. yet. And the PS2 was a few years back and since then, Xbox has had a few tweaks in getting people!
by - 2007-09-10 05:05:00
european idiots

to bj: because there are idiots in europe that do not speak english, so it is not possible to "share" the store with the americans..
by - 2007-09-10 06:34:49
Er...

Last guy does have a point, even if he doesn't say it well. Europe uses different currency that the US, and to sell in Europe as well as America, you've got to translate into several languages, where in America we can pretty safely assume everyone knows English. And to Cansat, several DL games are great; blastfactor and calling all cars are great with friends, and Stardust is the best dual analog shooter I've seen, much better than Geo Wars.
by - 2007-09-10 06:39:51
Maes

Man, read your post once more, then carefully consider why on earth it could be that Americans don't like foreigners. All over the internet I see people making generalizing, insulting, whiny comments by a-holes that make their whole country look bad.
by - 2007-09-10 07:58:45
Idiots

Make a US account and a Jap account like the rest of us...... Then you get everything you want,
by Ugly-Wan - 2007-09-10 08:16:59

by - 2007-09-10 10:48:11
