First of all it’s not that simple. The main difference is architecture of the CPU. Basically, Cell is a PowerPC and we haven’t so much “adapted codecs” for it. People will use their experience with Macs and PowerPC versions of UNIX, but now we came to second main difference: Cell isn’t exactly PowerPC (its one PPE unit and some SPE). Without access to RSX we can’t do simple effects that people making XBMC so proud of (like 3D screensaver and visualizations). I think we will see something like XBMC but only in 2-3 years min.

I think we will see a Media Centre before the shipments to Europe arrives. Thanks to PPC port of VLC, mPlayer etc they will be able to run a vast majority of different formats. My 0.02$

Especially if so early in it's life spawn they are hacking blue-ray movies to the hard drive, this will have a negative effect in the Ps3, especially with the big movie companies, nobody will want to put a movie in the blue ray format, knowing they are risking piracy, especially when the format was made to prevent this! A Blue-Ray player was a risky move by Sony, it can work or not, time will tell, but I always knew that making the system Linux friendly was a very big mistake, especially with all the knowledge hackers have of it!

i dont think sony is dumb from there exp from PSP they no hackers can tackle down anything they throw at them ofcourse theyve aredy took this blu ray piracy into consideration but still even if blurays are copyed and pirated it dusent matter lol DVD has been pirated above the limets dvds had about 5 GIGS of storage and most people in the world and i no i have frends that watch DVDs 80% them buy the DVDs burning stuff takes alot of noledge for normal PC users even most intellegent PC users wont be able to use the piracy on BLuray 50 GIGS thats a lot burning iso images and ect. will be very time consuming and space wasting on hard drives dont wrry atleast blu ray wont be pirated ass much ass DVD and for hd-dvd i have no idea were this technology is going im getin a PS3. so forget the HD-DVD even if u have a Xbox WULD U PAY 100$ for a HD-DVD attachment thats makes ur systam look more bulky ....i think not ........

Xbox Media Center was not run in linux thats the big difference. linux media center on xbox is terrible i hear compared to xbmc so yeah
