pricedFinally, something official from Sony. While we were grateful for the speculations as to the nearing European launch of the PS3 when everything else was quiet, it doesn't hurt to get something that's directly from the horse's mouth.

And now that we've got the buzz on the official price of the PS3 for Europe, via Sony's official site, we can't be too sure if we're glad the news came out. The Irish version of the official site says that the 60GB version will be priced at € 629.99 (about US$ 814) - €30 more than what was previously announced.

As for the 20GB model, it also appears that it will be sold for €529.99 (around US$ 685), although, it will not be available "at launch" in Ireland.

Okay, so that was for the Irish site. As for the rest of Europe, we're still waiting for the sites to be localized. And again, SCEE has yet to give its comment. But at least we pretty much have an idea now as to how much should European gamers save up for in two months. Keep it posted here for more updates.

Cant wait for the official word on the UK prices. Looking like us Europeans are going to be shafted as always.

a

If it's even more than with a 1 to 1 Euro-> Dollar conversion don't expect the average gamer yo buy it Sony will loose a lot of casual gamers and kids/young adolescents to Nintendo and Microsoft but again this price could be only temporary or totally fals

i totally agree

yep, as always us europeans are screwed. Its almost as if Sony is trying to gain back some losses with EU by blaming it on taxes. I knew it was going to be expensive, with a 60gb for %u20AC599, but now its even %u20AC30 extra in Ireland alone. I dont know if Ireland has wealthier consumers then most EU countries. However the fact that it has a Blu-ray drive does make it "cheaper" for those who were going to buy a next gen disc player anyway.

To the writers on QJ.net

You souldn't convert EU prices, e.g. the euro to dollar, because you will confuse people and maybe start some discussions. Can you paste the link of the source please.

GRRR

not only delivered 4 months later than Japan + USA...but as always more expensive than USA + Japan!! why!! + the Americans complain the PS3 is expensive...

I'd hate to be a gamer in Europe

No, Americans complain PS3 isn't worth the money. If it had better graphics and games than the competition, the price wouldn't be bad. $814 is absurd! I guess that's why $ony sued Lik Sang out of business because they're in the way of thier price gouging. Unless you're dying to be the first with a blu ray player so you can choose from 20 movies, do yourself a favor and get an XBOX 360.

Australia weeps with you

Don't worry European brothers, you're not the only ones getting screwed. The price for the 60 GB in Australia is said to be AUD $1000, which at the current rate works out to approx US $786. Sadly, possibly stupidly, it won't stop me getting one ...

Just for Ireland

First they delay the launch of the ps3, then they change it 's price. So i dicided to investigate (lol). I went to the oficial site of sony in Portugal, in France and in UK, and the prices are still the same so i think that price is only for Ireland. Thank god

They must really like the way it's selling in the US to jack up the prices for the EU market.. Nice going sony. And they said they planned on selling how much of these for the year?

I wish to live in the USA or at least in swiz (couse they are not part of the EU) But I live in *****ing austria so I have to buy evrything at a higher price.
