Euro patent examiners ditch the mouse-and-keyboard for DualShock 2

DualShock 2 - Image 1

Anyone who's ever manned the average white collar job would know that you'd spend most of the work hours with your hands practically glued to the mouse and the keyboard. But for patent examiners at the European Patent Office (EPO), that's a thing of the past - all the tedious PC work they have to do, they do in hardcore gaming fashion. Instead of the usual tools of the trade, they prefer to work with "commercial game controllers" a.k.a. the DualShock 2.

That's right. The PS2's trusty controller is such a hit that even bureaucrats actually use them for work. Whenever they use their fancy EPOQUE database system, they do so like they're flipping through an in-game menu, which would probably feel like they're playing a game while working.

They didn't go into the specifics as far as controls go, like which button does what, if they enter their user IDs in Circle, Square, X, X style as if they were game codes, or if the controller vibrates when they get an IM or a fatal error. Now that's a fun way to work.

Reminds me of the various controller mods for PC, like the SIXAXIS on PC mod and PS Eye for PC mods. That's pretty cool. I remember how durable those DualShock 2s were as well. I dropped a single controller many times for several years, and it still worked.

Only broke when I began slamming them on my floor out of anger at various games. =3

Makes sense to me. I use my ol' PS2 pads on my PC for a lot of stuff too, even drawing, mainly due to a stress problem I had that would cause my wrist to shake, whereas my thumb on the analog stick would be a lot more stable and precise.

» people are so dumb.

Well i hope they like sucking at the game and Never getting Much better at it then.

A pad user will Never win over a Keyboard and Mouse User, With my Mouse i can turn 360o and shoot you in the Head Before you Blink, can't do that with a Pad.

And it can look close to everywhere in secs so i know when people are coming, Again can't do that with a Pad.

» you are dumb...?

are you being sarcastic??

if not:

they aren't playing a shooter, dude.

and mouse and keyboard only win at FPSs.. everywhere else a controller kills mouse +keyboard.

This article had nothing to do with PC Gaming or FPS. Plus, a controller user can beat a mouse user. Just because someone is aiming with a mouse doesn't mean they're actually *good*. In any other genre, keyboard and mouse fails instantly, except for RTS maybe.

» are you guy dumb or just stupid?

I don't care if it's a Shooter or 3rd person game, With a Keyboard and Mouse I can best anyone using the Slow Game pad.

NarooN

Unless your brain dead you must be joking as a controller User could never beat a Keyboard+Mouse user, thats like saying a 5 year old kid with a stick can beat a 25 year old man with a Tank lol not going to happen.

» ok...

how did it get 2 a lot of ppl like the dualshock to mouse + keyboard pwn a regular game controller!?!?!?!

You used the word "never". Instantly, everything you just said has been nullified, and just to add to the argument, Pad users *have* beaten mouse users. That's a fact, whether you like it or not, kid. Go home.

» Yea sure.

Sorry Kid, But there is No way a little kid can beat me with there little game pad.

Keyboard and Mouse wins every time, Just facts.

so stop crying over it and face fasts.

the only way a pad user would beat a keyboard and mouse user is if the guy with the keyboard and mouse is brain dead, even then it would be a close match.
