With Unreal Tournament 3's release bordering next month (early 2008 for the Xbox 360), is there something new in the works for Epic Games? According to vice president Mark Rein, a new video game probably won't be coming in the near future as the creators behind Gears of War plan to support the growing fanatical following of Unreal Tournament 3 on PCs, Macs, PlayStation 3s, and Xbox 360s worldwide.

Of course, this brings up the question of mods. UT2004 was the major bloom for modification and map development, having at least four official content packs distributed for PC gamers everywhere. Other unofficially-packed user content included mutators and mods for Machinima sequences, battling hordes of Skaarj with vehicles, and the occasional map addition to Assault mode.

Mark Rein said that a new round of competitions to encourage mod teams and creators will come soon, and he anticipates that the mod compatibility for the PlayStation 3 is good for the PC community. Lots of other snippets covered before have also been run through in the video embed below, but it's better that you hear it from Rein himself:

Well...

That's kinda common knowledge... I do like Mark Rein, he's pretty straightforward about most things...all though he did some ***** footing around the topic of which was better to develop for...but of course that is always asking for trouble... This game will be awesome though on 360 or PS3...

Gears of War

He doesn't mention anything about Gears besides saying that they're do a Gears of War thing.
