Epic Games Boss: Sony "still the one to beat" |

It's fair to say that critics of Sony and the PS3 aren't few and far between, and at the moment it appears to be a bit of a "marmite" affair with the console - you either love it or hate it.This time Epic Games VP Mark Rein has stepped out into the spotlight to take on critics of Sony, saying "Sony has a very, very strong brand, so in my opinion, they're still the one to beat." He went on the explain about the other next-generation consoles strengths, and why he thinks Sony are still in first place.
The Wii is an impressive piece of hardware, but as you get the visually more impressive games coming out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, as the marketing dollars get turned up to support the larger quantities of machines, with potential price drops and titles like Singstar which appeal to the larger market... Those machines will ignite, they'll take off, and they'll sell just fine.
If any critics are reading this then you may want to consider something which Rein pointed out - people just seem to want to take a smack at [Sony] because they're the leader.
From a completely unbiased point of view, we'd have to agree that Sony is still the one to beat for both Microsoft and Nintendo. Although other consoles may be selling faster, this could just be due to the price of the PS3, which will go down with time. We also have to remember that the PS2 was the best selling console last generation, so until the next next-generation consoles come out, Microsoft and Nintendo are after Sony blood silicone.

I am glad that news articles are so much less biased now. For some reason it was so fanshionable to bash on the PS3 when the only reason was because they were the big guys. Look at countries that hate the US. My guess is the vast majority of them only hate them because the US has a GDP of the TOTAL of the EU. People really want to back the underdog because people like underdog stories. As much as Nintendo really looks like a "Bad News Bears" story, this just isnt typical of the world. Sure once in awhile things like this happen, and I think Sony had been setting themselves up for a let down just as Nintendo had done with the 64 (still a freakin awesome system IMHO) but they look on track now and the playing field is much more level this go around.

If Sony deliver on promises, lied less, created a good product from the start, and delivered more quality games they wouldn't have received a negative response. It's a $600 gaming machine, at that price it needs to be perfect. It's that simple.

It's not just a $600 gaming machine, it's also a true PC and when Yellow Dog releases the Nvidia RSX hounds, it'll give MicroSoft a run for their money. Imagine a boat load of Linux running, MS Office compatible (OpenOffice), 3D gaming machines let loose...

I think sony WAS the one to beat. Now all the competition has to do is keep thieir consoles cheaper and keep the great games coming.

First of all, they are not the leader anymore. Second, even if they were leading, that's not the reason for criticism. Sony lies, sony makes unjustifiable attacks
against the competition, sony breaks promises, sony doesn't care much about gamers, and sony bullies around other companies. THAT IS WHY THEY DO NOT DESERVE SUCCESS.

Sony is still the one to beat. The PS2 is still selling more than the 360 and the PS3 is picking up steam every day, so tell me how that's not being the leader. You think Sony lies, well at least their Ps3's aren't braking down all over the place like say ......I don't know......the 360. It's ridiculos the amount of people that have had their consoles breake down on them.

How is that possible fans cried out for a four player controller slot they got it. They wanted a hardrive they got a 60 GB. online + get online capabilities for free. they got it. Music to put on ur ps3. they got it. Enhance graphics CAPABILITY. THEY GOT TIMES TEN. sONY HAS DID A LOT FOR ITS CUSTOMERS. And for as gaphics goes and gameplay for those who don't know ANYTHING ABOUT THE MAKING PROCESS unless its sony making the game its the game studios that fans should be bi***** at. every system has its black sheep game. PS3 gUNDAM, 360 VIVA PINATA, Wii Happy feet . I could name more but i don't wanna hurt anyone's feelings who bought them. lol But on a more serious note all the systems promise or said things to make you by the system so true some not some that just ran into bugs either way all system lied about something. And on the price issue of course ps3 is going to most expensive. Who has the most features. thats like by a 2005, 2006 and then buying a 2007 lexus and complaining that the 2007 is more expensive. Why is everyone getting their panties in a bunch. People pay the samething with a computer why should it be any different. I betch if all systems were 300 hundred dollars who would when. And the last of my rants titles everyone keeps saying ooohhh sony lose so many games to MS are forgetting about games like Resistance best game of the month GI, Heavenly Sword, Lair, God of War, Metal Gear(and for dreamers no its not comming to 360 read Hideo Kojima's bloggs Xbox had it chances and the sales sucked)Final Fanasty and who else knows what Sony's been hiding. ok thats it let the comments roll.
The only reason microsoft are winning in my view is because people like me cant even buy sony's console yet. I dont feel annoyed at this because in 2 weeks when i go to pick up my ps3 there will be a broader range of games to pick up compared to the us release day. My brother owns a 360 and to be honest im not very impressed with it, i have tried it but the games just are not appealing and pretty much the only exclusive games for the 360 i will eventually be able to play on my pc or ps3 when they get released. Unlike ps3 exclusives where they really are exclusive and wont be on the pc.
All in all i dont care who wins i just want my ps3 now!!!!
