Eidos Montreal wants to bring Thief 4 to "another level" |
Ó

Eidos Montreal GM Stephane D'Astous has let Thief fans in on some of the studio's plans for Thief 4. I refuse to type out that stupid logo with the 4 in it because "4" =/= "E" and the game is not called THIAF damn it.
Ehem. Anyway, it seems Eidos Montreal is looking for that magic middle ground between giving the core fans what they want and making the series more profitable.
"We want to bring something new to the table, because these games sold respectably [in the past], but we want to bring it to another level. We want to have a larger audience without diluting the content," said D'Astous. "That is the real challenge, to bring it to a larger audience but without making it too easy or too thin on content."
Innovation doesn't mean an extreme departure from what made the series great in the first place, though. Story, choice, and RPG elements will also be heavily focused on instead of the frenetic twitch-based combat in most shooters.
"I think we'll try to repeat what the first game did, which is to really break ground on the traditional way of playing. And I think if we want to do a fully stealth game, it's going to be, I hope, very innovative and bring a lot of new things to the table," D'Astous said.
"I think shooters are fine – it's an adrenaline rush. But I think the RPGs in recent years are really gaining a lot of momentum. People want to have a richer experience. They want to have choices in their gameplay and I think games are getting more and more sophisticated with storytelling, and I think we can certainly do something with that with Thief."

When they took over Thief series after Looking Glass went Bankrupt, Ion Storm totally destroyed LG's true storyline for Thief 3 and sad thing is it may have had free roam but it lacked some things. What Looking Glass had. If you want a free roam Thief game, MAKE IT REAL FREE ROAM! Also reason they went bankrupt cause they wanted Thief 4 to have guns in it and take place in the future. Oh yes if you want it to be successful, listen to the fans and I believe the Assassins Creed engine would be perfect for this game, though you would have to modify it for bows and arrows, and such, it would make for a perfect Thief experience. All you need is the Assassins Creed engine and modify it a bit to be alot like a Thief game.
THIAF is LOL. Definitely not leet.
They're really going to call it Thi4f? Oh lord. I never played the first 3 but wanted to but if they're going with Thi4f as the title for the 4th game I don't think I'll be able to take it serious at all.
"That is the real challenge, to bring it to a larger audience but without making it too easy or too thin on content." Basically he is saying most gamers these days are casuals, and I have to agree.
