EEDAR estimates Prototype to outsell inFamous by 90%

Between the bad boys Alex Mercer and Cole MacGrath, who takes the cake? EEDAR weighs in and the results are a mix of official estimates and personal choices.

On the official estimates, EEDAR declares Prototype (PS3, Xbox 360, or PC) as the winner, with Alex Mercer said to outsell Cole MacGrath's inFamous by a stellar 90% -- that is thanks in large part to the combined sales of the game's multiplatform releases. But if we're gonna keep the comparison fair - meaning, limited only to the PS3 sales of both titles - inFamous wins by 35 to 50% more.

EEDAR director Jesse Divinich also gave his own two cents on whether or note money given for exclusivity would balance these numbers. His answer: not necessarily.

SCEA published inFamous, so I would venture to guess they paid nothing for exclusivity. Sucker Punch, the developers, have only done PlayStation 2 and 3 titles. They are most known for the Sly Cooper series. I am sure Sucker Punch receives a lot of financial incentives to stay exclusive to Sony, which likely takes the form of higher royalty percentage points on gross sales.

Sony is not in the financial position to pay for exclusive releases at the moment, which limits exclusive releases to first-party published titles. They openly admit that they won't pay for exclusive DLC.

The Agent, a Rockstar title, is a PS3 exclusive and I do imagine Sony is providing some support on the backend, whether that is financial support or technological support is unknown to the public. However, Rockstar is a very intrepid developer, they would do a PS3 exclusive and make it profitable just for the challenge.

And now to Divinch's personal choice. "In an environment without chain linked fences or strewed about gardening hoses? Cole all the way."

Are you rooting for Cole, too?

"they would do a PS3 exclusive and make it profitable just for the challenge."

did he just imply it's tough to profit with a ps3 exclusive?

Beat inFamous on both good and evil and I have to say....after that theres really not much you can do besides the satellites and the shards.

but i saw the walkthrough of prototype. terms of playing, i would have to give it to prototype. but story still goes to infamous.

Enjoyed inFamous far, far more than prototype. Many particular scenes from inFamous still linger in my mind while I found Prototype, sorta enjoyable at the time, to be now totally forgettable. But yeah of course Prototypes gonna sell more, it's on 3 systems instead of just 1. 90% seems a stretch though.

what stupid statistics, lets say 30 people buy infamous on PS3 and 30 people buy prototype on 360 and on pc because they cant get infamous... well thats 100% more then infamous sales there...

This has got the be the dumbest thing I've read in a while! Honestly who cares? I love inFAMOUS, it's a superb game! I'm looking to give my hands a whirl at prototype sometime soon, but why pit sales against eachother? Is it some sad attempt to try and sell more copies of prototype?

Why are people comparing these games? inFamous is much better anyway. Much more original than Prototype. Anyway, I think they're different games. I just think inFamous is very unique and Prototype just feels like another super hero videogame.

Has anyone else but me found many similarities with Prototype and The Hulk games? I'm not saying they're the same game, but to me the game feels old hat. I've played through inFAMOUS good and evil, and now I just started Prototype and it feels a lot like one of the Hulk games I played a few years back.

I chuckled when I saw Critical Mass as an unlock. I'm so far not as impressed with Prototype as I was inFAMOUS. That being said, I had a ton of complaints about inFAMOUS.

I actually played both games a lot. I own inFamous and my friend dumped Prototype at my house and left it for a good week...before trading it in. Prototype is simply a mindless run around beat em up game where any and every command is automatic (from running straight up walls without pressing buttons to skipping across water automatically) it feels like it was made for people with a below average IQ. inFamous on the other hand is obviously the deeper game. "Replay value" aside, inFamous is superior on all fronts.
