EB Games manager: We will stop selling PS3 20GB models |
Is the 20GB model of the PlayStation 3 (PS3) going to be extinct in the future? We're not too certain on what's the real score on that, but judging from the rate that things are going, it is highly probable. In fact, just the other day, we learned that the online shop Sony Style US just pulled out the said models.To add to that, we got a tip today from Kaizer_911, a manager for the retail chain EB Games, that his company is no longer purchasing new stocks of the PS3 20 GB model. According to Kaizer_911, the revelation was made through an e-mail from the company's higher-ups and the reason given was that "the demand and interest in the 60GB model out weighs that of the 20GB model."
Mote interestingly, Kaizer_911 went on and divulged that EB Games is currently devising a way to honor the PRP (warranties) sold on the console's smaller model. Another e-mail was sent, accordingly, in relation to this and part of it reads,
If a customer is trying to claim the PRP on a 20GB PS3, and your store doesn't have any, nor do any of your other local stores, you MUST email Store Operations of this issue and we will send you one from the warehouse within 2-3 days. This is currently how the PRP replacement plan is going, we are still looking into other ways to honor these PRP customers should the warehouse no longer have stock of the 20GB model.
A couple of weeks ago, it should be remembered that Best Buy admitted and confirmed that it is finally removing the 20GB model from its shelves. Uh, Mr. David Karraker, where are the 20GB models allocated for North America?

The ps3 will suceed. i myself have xbox 360 and the ps3, sure the ps3 doesnt have games yet it still is a better console overall(hardwar e wise) every time i turn my xbox on it sounds like an f16 jet is takin off. Sony is making smart buisness decisions knowing that people wont buy the 20gb versions of the system.
people want the best so thats why everyone buys the 60gb model because its better!

they might reduce the 60GB version price after complete remove all of 20GB stock.
Because PS3 is already loss by production but it will less loss profit if you reduce 60GB rather than 20GB where the hard drive is only about $30 different.
Let say about $200 loss on 60GB system after $600 sold ($800 to make):
20GB use without $30 addition for 60GB and $40 for Wifi
Save $70 for 20GB system but with $230 loss
($800 - $70 = $730 - $500 = $230)
It is high possible Sony may reduce $30 to $50, maybe more than $50 if the laser start reduce the cost.

So what about all the 20 gig owners are they going to be offered a trade in or big discount on a drive or are they going to be left to fend for themselves?. Sony sold the official 20 gig drive so they should supply a cheap official 60 gig upgrade drive..
I own a PS3 whilst I agree it is quieter than the 360 you have to remember the 360 was a year ahead of the competition (and they have been playing the games that the PS3 is just now getting almost a year ago),I will be getting the Elite 360 and im not so sure about keeping the PS3 as the games on the 360 are just better ,there is a huge choice and the full price multiformat games that come out on the PS3 are exactly the same as their 360 counterparts BUT the PS3 ones are charged at full price whereas for the same game on 360 its now budget price.
And apart from 2 games on the PS3 (both of which are from the original PS1 there is not that much of a list to look forward to this year and the 360 list for this year is better for me anyway...
the 20GB never even became an option even when news regarding the PS3 first started... that's why when they said no 20gb model in Australia i couldn't care less... if u'r already spending money on a PS3 why not go all the way ryt... there are only two consoles around... the Playstation 3 and others... i ain't broke, i earn my own money, it's not my mom who's goin to buy it (and can only afford an xbox which probably wow's moms budget)... so i got myself a ferrarri of a console...
take away the 20gb... i don't care.

ytut thats a great way to look at it. i mean it doesn't have much fuel yet. the same could e said about the 360 - whats the point in having a 360 if all its good for is crashing

for the xbots you can have all the fuel u want (anyway FPS are only for those deprived of any relevant childhood memories)... put in all the add-ons u like to make ur console comparable to the ps3... in the end u'll only have a souped up hyundai...

if a person wants 20gb ps3 then EB is out of the chain, hence less sales for EB. i personally think my 20gb ps3 is not so much inferior from the 60gb models. i have upgraded its hard drive, supports my 16in1 card reader and Remote play via my home Wifi. it consumes less electricity than the 60gb models due to unplugged parts if i dont use them. anyways why are people complaining about ps3 sales when most people prefer the more expensive 60gb ps3 than the 20gb ones? or is it the xbots that are complaining? coz if you have a ps3 or can afford one, believe me you will not complain.
too bad for you, yah have to give up ps3 for xbox360, you cant have both, i feel sorry for you.
anyways if you are not interested in ps3 games that are available and coming soon, feel free to purchase the console of which you feel will give you happiness and pleasure. if 360 has it then gogogo. but as a full gamer, i advise you tohold on to the ps3 coz its gonna be gaming madness on october to december 2007. i myself wouldnt wanna be left out when that happens and it will.

Too bad the PS3 doesn't have an add on to allow it to play good games designed for other systems. If you own a PS3, it's a $400 add on. That feature comes built in with the 360!
